Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Leader

Remote | RN Required

As our Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Team Lead / Manager, you will play a key leadership role supporting documentation excellence, quality outcomes, compliance, and revenue integrity initiatives. This position is ideal for experienced CDI professionals seeking leadership opportunities. Working closely with the CDI leadership, this role provides mentorship, operational support, education, and guidance to CDI Specialists while maintaining a portion of frontline CDI review responsibilities. Depending on experience and qualifications, candidates may be considered for either a Team Lead or Manager-level opportunity. The ideal candidate brings strong inpatient acute care CDI expertise, demonstrated leadership skills, and a passion for developing team members while driving quality outcomes.

To thrive in this role, you must have the following knowledge:

Leadership & Team Development
  • Serve as a clinical documentation integrity subject matter expert and resource for CDI staff.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and mentorship to CDI team members.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and professional development activities.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives and operational excellence efforts.
  • Partner with leadership to promote a collaborative and engaged team culture.

Program Operations
  • Assist with implementation of CDI policies, procedures, workflows, communication strategies, and education plans.
  • Support resolution of CDI and coding-related questions and documentation opportunities.
  • Collaborate with CDI leadership on department initiatives and contracted client engagements.
  • Participate in audits, quality reviews, and compliance monitoring activities.

Clinical Documentation Review
  • Conduct concurrent and follow-up reviews to ensure documentation accurately reflects patient severity, quality of care, and reimbursement considerations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing teams, coding professionals, and compliance partners to improve documentation practices.
  • Maintain productivity expectations while balancing leadership responsibilities.
  • Stay current with ICD-10-CM guidelines, Coding Clinic updates, CMS regulations, and industry best practices.

Reporting & Analytics
  • Partner with CDI leadership to develop and analyze operational metrics.
  • Monitor team performance indicators, quality outcomes, and financial impact.
  • Utilize data to identify trends and recommend process improvements.


Required Skills:
  • Education: Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
  • 3-5 years of recent inpatient acute care clinical experience in one or more of the following:
    • Medical-Surgical
    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
    • Telemetry
    • Emergency Department
  • 2-3 years of recent frontline inpatient CDI experience
  • Active unrestricted U.S. Registered Nurse (RN) license required


Preferred Skills:
  • Previous CDI Team Lead, Supervisor, Educator, or Management experience
  • CCDS and/or CDIP certification
  • Strong provider education and physician engagement experience
  • Experience leading quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience developing CDI metrics and reporting
  • Multi-facility or consulting CDI experience


For this US-based position, the base pay range is $65,000.00 - $116,747.20 per year . Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

This job is eligible to participate in our annual bonus plan at a target of 10.00%
