Description:
To provide nursing care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.

To apply professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

Constant interaction with internal and external customers including patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors.

Perform patient assessments reflecting physical, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual, cognitive needs, and functional abilities through the systematic collection and review of patient-specific data and communicate assessments appropriately.

Plan and prioritize care based on assessment, evaluate patient progress, and revise care to attain expected outcomes.

Include patient/family in planning care and evaluating programs and outcomes.

Demonstrate clinical competencies in the specific area of practice as described in departmental performance standards.

Assess patient/family learning needs, plan and provide education, and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching in achieving desired outcomes.

Identify and respond appropriately to ethical issues in patient care.

Provide nursing care in a non-judgmental manner that respects patient diversity and acknowledges patient rights.

Serve as a resource to others in addressing ethical dilemmas in patient care.

Initiate collaborative dialogue with physicians and coordinate multidisciplinary activities to plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care.

Act as a patient advocate.

Provide nursing care in a non-judgmental manner that respects patient diversity and acknowledges patient rights while identifying resources to meet unique patient needs.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, core measures, patient safety, and quality initiatives to achieve optimal clinical and organizational outcomes.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.

Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to administer patient care.

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.

Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.

Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, crouch, and stoop.

Frequent lifting/moving patients, intermittent lifting, moving, or carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs.

Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity and constant reaching with hands/arms.

Frequent talking or hearing, with corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.

Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment.

May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department.

Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing is required.
