Full Job Description
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Respiratory Services, responsible for the management of patient care, day-to-day operations and department personnel of the Respiratory Care department to promote high quality patient care cost effectively and support the departments' goals and objectives according to the hospital's strategic plan.

As a member of the Respiratory Services management team, assists in the development of department goals, objectives and standards, budget development, preparation and control, quality assurance and department education.

Coordinates department activities to include regulatory requirements, equipment quality control / maintenance, and performance improvement.

Job Responsibilities:

Key areas of responsibility

Work collaboratively with Director on preparation of annual budget, and expense management. Control Operating expenses in compliance with budget. Provide continuous analysis and reports on variations from established budgets. Has accountability in budget variance reporting and expenses.

Work collaboratively with Director on strategic planning to support organizational goal alignment.

Plans, implements, and communicates Respiratory Services policies and procedures.

Works with Director to ensure regulatory compliance is maintained. Assists with ensuring compliance for policies and procedures. The manager will follow up on assigned Risk connects and attend assigned meetings and leadership forums. Work with Quality Manager to ensure safety standards are being met and risks are being minimized.

Maintains accountability for compliance with all regulatory standards including local, state, and federal laws, The Joint Commission, Connecticut Department of Public Health, Connecticut licensing requirements, and organizational quality improvement programs for Respiratory Services.

Manages and participates in special projects and committee work within Respiratory Services and with other hospital departments. Serve as department representative on task forces and committees.

Manages the operational activities of Respiratory Services, including management of Supervisors and Respiratory Therapy staff.

Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, conflict management, etc.

Oversees scheduling, recruitment, and student engagements.

Provides developmental opportunities for employees through a comprehensive orientation program, in-service programs, clear performance standards and appropriate feedback through the performance appraisal process.

Assesses quality of patient care. Participates in frequent rounding of patient and staff areas.

May provide respiratory patient care if needed

Maintains clinical proficiency and annual health stream

Oversight of Health Stream

Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

Qualifications:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy, Business Management, Health Science, Finance or related field
Experience
  • At least five (5) years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist and two (2) years of progressive management experience
Licensure, Certification, Registration
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) granted by The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
    • Valid State of Connecticut Respiratory Care Practitioner license
    • Active member of the American Association of Respiratory Care
    • Obtain and keep current with i-STAT validation, where applicable
    • BLS /ACLS Certified

    Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

    • Knowledge of continuous improvement and project management

    • Excellent customer service skills with a professional attitude.

    • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects

    • Intermediate computer skills for use with email, Word and Excel.

    • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills

    • Knowledge of Respiratory Therapy practices. Sufficient to be able to perform a wide range of duties relative to the work assigned.

    • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.

    • Ability to lead and make sound decisions.

    • Ability to multitask and prioritize.

    • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information

    • Ability to handle different patient population including difficult patients.
