.Your Opportunity

As a Resident Tunnel Designer, you will be embedded on a project site in Cincinnati, Ohio, supporting ongoing project work for the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati. You will provide resident engineering, technical expertise, and construction oversight for tunnel and trenchless works, ensuring reliability, efficiency, constructability, and cost-effectiveness. You will collaborate with project managers, technical leads, contractors, and client representatives to deliver a successful project outcome.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the on-site technical expert for tunnel and trenchless construction activities.
  • Oversee daily construction operations, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and project requirements.
  • Perform engineering calculations, review drawings, and prepare field reports.
  • Coordinate with contractors, client representatives, and internal teams to resolve technical issues and facilitate project progress.
  • Participate in project meetings, constructability reviews, and quality assurance/quality control activities.
  • Support the development and revision of project documentation, including change orders, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for tunnel and trenchless works.
  • Provide services during construction, including submittal reviews, responses to RFIs, and contract document clarifications.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Stantec and client safety policies

Your Qualifications

Capabilities and Credentials
  • Self-starter, innovative and collaborative.
  • Strong communicator, able to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Experienced in tunnel and/or trenchless design and construction; direct construction oversight experience preferred.
  • Familiar with tunnel and trenchless means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant design software; familiarity with computational modeling software is a plus.
  • Able to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation.
  • Organized, with excellent time management skills.
  • Able to travel and work on site for the duration of the assignment.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geological Engineering; postgraduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tunnel or trenchless design or construction activities and related geotechnical or structural engineering input; additional experience preferred.
  • Experience working in field environments, including exposure to inclement weather.

Pay Range:
• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland -- BC & Various locations in Ontario-$106,700.00 - $156,700.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
