Full Job Description
Position Overview:

The Engineering Technician will provide hands-on support of high voltage, electrical and mechanical equipment related to General Fusion's large scale experimental plasma injector. The technician will be part of a team that builds, maintains and operates an assortment of complex and unique equipment, machinery, and testing apparatuses. The role will also involve handling lithium metal used during plasma operations.

The position is located on site at General Fusion's Richmond, BC facility, and may require occasional evening or weekend shift work or flexible hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high voltage pulsed power systems and other experimental equipment, keeping them running reliably during plasma operations
  • Assemble, install, and test new equipment, machinery, and test apparatus
  • Handle and prepare lithium metal used in plasma operations
  • Maintain equipment records and spare parts inventory, and specify and order parts and materials as needed
  • Keep the shop floor, lab, and tools organized and in good working order
  • Treat safety as the top priority when working with high voltage, high energy, and chemical hazards
  • Take ownership of assigned systems and support the team as priorities shift


Requirements:
  • Completion of a post-secondary technical program in a directly related field (degree, diploma, or certification)
  • 2-5 years' experience working in a shop or lab environment and/or working hands-on with mechanical equipment
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of prototype systems
  • Experience with hand tools, power tools, basic metal fabrication
  • Experience in working with large equipment and safely moving it.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Organized mindset and ability to keep a tidy shop floor
  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg
  • Basic computer literacy (Excel, Outlook)


Preferred:
  • Experience with high-voltage or high-energy electrical systems.
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other lab equipment.
  • Experience working with and safely moving large equipment. Forklift, crane, and rigging experience.
  • Chemical handling experience.
  • Experience working with mechanical assemblies and equipment such as automobile repair or other mechanical systems.
  • Hobby project experience with any combination of the above skills.


The typical hiring range for this position is $74,000 - $88,000. General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
