Vertex is seeking a talented Research Scientist to join a collaborative research team focused on Biologics discovery and optimization in Boston, MA. The group’s mission is to deliver next generation biologics and genetic therapies impacting several therapeutic areas. We are looking for a candidate with a strong desire to deliver innovative new medicines to patients in need. In this lab-based role, the ideal candidate is strongly experienced in LC-MS based analytical method development and characterization of biologics including antibodies and antibody-like scaffolds, bioconjugates, and lipid nanoparticles. The candidate should be independent, accustomed to taking initiative, and bring enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity to Vertex’s fast-paced research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively amongst several therapeutic areas and modalities to provide detailed product characterization to support program advancement

• Develop, execute and optimize LC and MS-based methods for the characterization of proteins, antibodies, antibody-like scaffolds, bioconjugates, and lipid nanoparticles

• Serve as the subject matter expert for LC-MS based analysis of protein and lipid nanoparticles

• Collaborate towards developability/manufacturability assessment in support of product advancement

• Transfer of analytical methods and technical support

• Active participation in group and cross-disciplinary project team meetings

Knowledge and Skills:

• Proficient in protein and lipid nanoparticle characterization by liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry

• Familiarity with instrument integration and scheduling tools

• Strong understanding of biologics and lipid nanoparticle manufacturing and critical quality attributes

• Track record of productivity

• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and prioritize multiple programs

• Strong ownership, scientific curiosity, attention to detail, and commitment to technical excellence

Education and Experience:

• Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in biochemistry or related disciplines and 0-3 years of relevant post-doctoral employment experience, or
• Masters Degree (or equivalent degree) in biochemistry or related disciplines and 8+ years of relevant employment experience
