Overview

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Program Manager within the Office of Human Research Services (OHRS) at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

The primary purpose of the Research Program Manager (Statewide) is to establish workflows and processes to support high-quality clinical research activities throughout designated region of the Rutgers Oncology service line and serve as a liaison between the local sites and the Office of Human Research Services.

This individual is responsible for planning, supervising and monitoring the daily work of all research staff supporting these activities assuring that all clinical research conducted within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey is according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines as well as applicable Institutional, State and Federal regulations and guidelines. In addition, this position is responsible for meeting the goals and objectives established by the leadership team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Responsible for the supervision of day-to-day statewide clinical research operations. Serves as primary contact for all protocol related requests.
  • Provides support and guidance consistent with staff needs as indicated by written evaluation and consultation with management and providers. Evaluates performance addressing both qualitative and quantitative aspects of performance; identifies strengths and areas that need improvement as indicated on written evaluation.
  • Actively contributes to creating a friendly, welcoming and safe environment for research participants. Implements processes that are patient centered and meet/exceed needs. Drives collaboration with leadership, including physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Provides coverage within designated territory as appropriate. Performs abstraction of data from source records in human subject charts (i.e., laboratory or diagnostic test results, surgical/radiation treatments delivered, adverse drug reactions, etc); abstraction of data from publications, or data collection from outside physician offices.
  • Training and development of staff. Regularly plans, schedules, and attends in-service meetings and other training events that will enhance/maintain research skills.
  • Conducts Quality Assurance audits. Performs regular audits of assigned team to ensure that the data collected is completed and accurate and to ensure that the research project, database or protocol is carried out as outlined.
  • Works collaboratively with physician colleagues, nurses, nurse coordinators, pharmacy, reception staff, and all members of the Office of Human Research Services, Advanced Practice Nurses, appropriate hospital and laboratory staff to ensure that services are coordinated and delivered to patients in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a social science or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of oncology research experience required.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a clinical research environment required.
  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.


Certifications/Licenses
  • American Heart Association: Basic Life Support (BLS) required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires flexibility in scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of DHHS, FDA, OHRP, NIH, GCP, HIPPA, IRB and other applicable guidelines.
  • Must be detail oriented, have excellent organizational skills, be proficient in computer applications (Word, Excel, Oncore™), possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to maximize resources and be resourceful.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing preferred.
  • Supervision in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Association of Clinical Research Professional (CCRC) or Society of Clinical Research Associates (CCRC) certification preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
