Overview

We are searching for a Research and Development Engineer to join our team located at our facility in Albany, OR.

Responsibilities

Your Role:

The Research and Development Engineer will lead projects driving the next generation of sustainable, high-performance products. This role owns multiple initiatives from concept through commercialization, including new materials, tooling design, and process trials. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with manufacturing experience and thrives in a fast-paced applied R&D environment where ideas move rapidly from prototype to production. You are someone who is both strategic and tactical, capable of designing experiments, leading trials, and working side-by-side with technicians to deliver results that accelerate innovation and scale.

  • Lead and manage multiple material, product, and process development projects from formulation to commercialization.
  • Design, communicate, and execute structured experiments and trials in partnership with technicians and cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and optimize tooling and process solutions to meet performance, manufacturability, and cost targets.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret trial data using DOE and statistical methods to draw clear conclusions and drive decisions.
  • Present results and recommendations with clarity to peers, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of materials, process settings, tooling revisions, and outcomes to ensure repeatability and learning transfer.
  • Collaborate with operations and manufacturing teams to transition successful projects into production while supporting scale-up and validation.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, repeatability, safety, and data capture within R&D workflows.

Qualifications

We need you to have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. (Advanced degrees with related experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, product development, or applied R&D (injection molding or extrusion preferred).
  • Proven ability to lead hands-on trials, analyze complex data, and translate insights into actionable improvements.
  • Deep understanding of polymers, tooling design, and processing principles.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Excel, and statistical analysis tools; experience with DOE and structured data analysis required.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly across levels.
  • Demonstrated drive for innovation, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
  • Passion for sustainability, materials innovation, and transforming concepts into scalable manufacturing solutions.

Icing on the cake: 

  • Masters degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering. 
  • 10+ years of applicable experience.
