As the Supervisor, Drinking Water Distribution Repair & Maintenance, you will oversee the day-to-day activities of multiple construction crews responsible for repairing Calgary's linear water distribution system. You will engage, develop, and coach your team to complete work safely and in alignment with City of Calgary policies, procedures, and best practices. This role is responsible for ensuring construction crews remain accountable for completing work safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Primary duties include:
- Promote and enforce adherence to the City's Occupational Health and Safety Management System, including procedures, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, site inspections, performance monitoring, safety risk assessments for jobs and high-risk activities, safe work planning, training and competency development, and reporting expectations.
- Ensure compliance with City policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, and established best practices.
- Coordinate crew assignments, equipment, and materials for scheduled projects and emergency repairs.
- Oversee daily repair activities for water distribution infrastructure across Calgary.
- Plan, execute, monitor, and close out larger planned work assignments.
- Ensure operations comply with applicable environmental legislation and maintain accurate records to support audit requirements.
- Direct daily workflows for field staff, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and addressing employee issues and concerns.
- Provide subject matter expertise and professional guidance related to linear water system repair.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED or CAEC [Canadian Adult Education Certificate]) and Level II Alberta Environment & Parks (AEP) certification in Water Distribution and at least 8 years of related experience; OR
- A completed 2-year diploma and Level II AEP certification in Water Distribution and at least 3 years related experience; OR
- A Level III certification in Water Distribution and at least 4 years related experience.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits OR a Graduated Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
- Ability to obtain a City of Calgary's operator's permit.
- Exceptional communication skills accompanied by strong customer focus.
- Well-developed problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
