Department: Nephrology
Reports to: Technical Manager
Wage Range: $34.87 - $43.59 per hour
Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week
Shifts:
Status: Permanent Full-Time

The principal responsibilities of the Renal Engineering Technologist include:
  • Performing troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance of dialysis machines and other treatment related equipment used in both in-centre and home hemodialysis to ensure safe operation in accordance with CSA Standards, University Health Network policy and manufacturer's protocols
  • Maintaining and documenting an organized program for planned preventative and corrective maintenance of dialysis equipment
  • Investigating and acting upon quality assurance issues related to patient safety and adequacy of treatment
  • Performing direct and functional supervisory responsibilities
  • Identifying, facilitating and providing opportunities for staff and self professional/skills enhancement
  • Providing assessments of the suitability of patient residence for home hemodialysis installation including electrical, plumbing and adequate space for treatment/supplies
  • Providing in-services/education to multidisciplinary team and patients on technical topics and equipment
  • Acting as a technical resource for clinical and medical staff
  • Driving long distance to perform services at patient's homes
  • Assisting in research and evaluation of new product/equipment and providing input for practices and procedures
  • Performing administrative responsibilities to ensure the department runs effectively and efficiently
  • Performs cross-functional responsibilities, as assigned; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required


Qualifications
  • Graduate from a recognized Dialysis Technology program or Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Applied Science, Electronics or Biomedical Engineering
  • Certified or eligible for certification within two years of hire as a Certified Dialysis Technologist (cdt) with The Canadian Board of Examiners for Biomedical Engineering and Dialysis Technologist and Technicians, along with C.E.T. certification through OACETT
  • Two (2) years experience working as a dialysis technologist with an emphasis on repair maintenance of dialysis equipment and water treatment systems
  • Experience in the service and maintenance of Fresenius 5008/S, Gambro Artis and Nikkiso DBB-EXA dialysis equipment systems preferred
  • Experience in the service and maintenance of MarCor, DWA, Fresenius AquaUno H, Gambro WRO300H and CWP800 water systems is an asset
  • Must have a valid Ontario Driver's License
  • Proficiency in computer hardware and software including recent related experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to assess complex electronic and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining focus and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem solving-skills
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to organize and set priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be physically able to perform duties requiring heavy exertion (lifting, pushing and pulling)
  • Must be physically able to walk/stand for extended periods of time

  • Demonstrated understanding or ability to deliver excellent customer service and patient centered care
