Job Duties

Chief Objective:
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a Regulated Product Enforcement Communications & Outreach Coordinator within the Programs Divisions of the Office of the Attorney General. This role will work closely with RPEU Program Manager and the RPEU Unit Manager within the Consumer Protection Section. The RPEU Communications & Outreach Coordinator will help support the development and implementation of communications, public education, and outreach strategies that advance the Office's regulated products enforcement initiatives. This position translates complex regulatory, enforcement, consumer protection, and public health information into clear, accessible messaging and resources for Virginians and key stakeholders.

The Coordinator supports stakeholder engagement, training and resource development, public education campaigns, and communications activities related to regulated products and emerging issues. The position reports directly to the Regulated Products Manager and works collaboratively with Communications, Programs and Outreach, Policy, Consumer Protection, and other internal teams.

Work Tasks and Duties:
Strategic Communications & Content Development
• Support the development and implementation of communications and outreach strategies for regulated products priorities, initiatives, and emerging issues.
• Develop clear, audience-specific messaging related to regulated products, applicable laws, consumer protections, enforcement activities, and available resources.
• Create written and digital content, including fact sheets, toolkits, reports, presentations, guidance documents, website content, social media content, and promotional materials.
• Coordinate with Communications and subject-matter experts to ensure messaging is accurate, timely, consistent, and aligned with OAG priorities.
• Support public education campaigns and proactive communications designed to increase awareness and visibility of regulated products initiatives.
• Ensure content reflects strong writing, editing, visual, and accessibility standards.

Stakeholder Engagement & Outreach
• Support engagement with community organizations, educational institutions, public health and public safety partners, state and local agencies, industry stakeholders, and other key audiences throughout Virginia.
• Develop stakeholder-specific messaging, presentations, talking points, briefing materials, and outreach resources.
• Coordinate and support stakeholder meetings, roundtables, community events, conferences, public forums, and other engagement opportunities.
• Identify opportunities to expand the reach of OAG messaging through strategic partnerships, trusted messengers, and regional outreach.
• Represent the RPEU at partner meetings, community events, and public forums as needed.

Training & Resource Development
• Develop and coordinate trainings, presentations, webinars, toolkits, and educational resources related to regulated products, consumer protection, compliance, prevention, and emerging issues.
• Work with subject-matter experts to translate complex legal, regulatory, and program information into practical resources for professional and community audiences.
• Support outreach and education for consumers, parents, educators, public health professionals, public safety partners, retailers, community organizations, and other relevant audiences.
• Identify emerging communications, training, and resource needs based on stakeholder feedback, program priorities, and trends.
• Maintain and regularly update communications, training, and outreach materials.

Communications Planning & Program Support
• Maintain communications calendars and work plans for campaigns, trainings, events, outreach activities, and key program milestones.
• Track communications activities, stakeholder engagement, trainings, resource distribution, and outreach reach to support program reporting and evaluation.
• Assist with communications-related grant deliverables, reports, and other program obligations.
• Coordinate with communications vendors, consultants, and creative contractors as needed.
• Participate in regular staff meetings and support cross-divisional and organization-wide initiatives.
• Regular travel within Virginia may be required for events, trainings, outreach activities, and stakeholder engagement.

Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, public affairs, marketing, digital communications, or community outreach.
• Strong writing, editing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
• Experience developing public-facing written, digital, educational, or promotional content.
• Ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling, and accessible messaging for diverse audiences.
• Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with diverse partners and subject-matter experts.
• Commitment to public service, consumer protection, community engagement, and mission-driven communications.

Additional Considerations
• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, public affairs, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience in government, nonprofit, advocacy, public health, public safety, consumer protection, or regulatory communications.
• Experience developing trainings, publications, reports, campaigns, toolkits, or educational resources.
• Experience with community and stakeholder engagement.
• Familiarity with design and digital communications tools, including Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
• Familiarity with regulated products and emerging consumer protection or public health issues.
