Position Highlights

About the Role
  • This position plays a key role in supporting Avera's employee health and safety efforts by coordinating and managing a comprehensive immunization program for contingent workforce employees. Responsibilities include tracking immunization compliance, maintaining accurate records, following up on required vaccinations, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and organizational policies.

  • The position also coordinates testing and treatment for employees exposed to communicable diseases and supports the Employee Communicable Disease Call Center by assisting with employee illness inquiries and case management.

  • This is an office-based position requiring in-person attendance at a location within walking distance of the Avera McKennan Campus.

  • The role offers the opportunity to work closely with Employee Health staff and contribute to programs and initiatives that promote the health, safety, and well-being of Avera employees across the organization.


A Brief Overview

Responsible to oversee all aspects of the Employee Health Program for individual including but not limited to: employees, volunteers, credentialed providers and contract staff. The RN - Employee Health assumes responsibility for the new hire process, immunization programs, medical surveillance, Workman's Compensation, Drug and Alcohol programs, ADA and FMLA processes and compliance with regulatory agencies.

What you will do

  • Responsible for tracking and coordinating a comprehensive immunization program that meets all regulatory requirements and policies, including following up on immunizations and assuring proper record keeping.
  • Responsible to assist in maintaining a comprehensive Employee Health Program that includes elements such as the following: Health History, Post Offer Physical Exams, Immunization records, necessary titer records, TB testing, other regulatory required testing in accordance with required agencies and state Department of Health guidelines.
  • Investigates, analyzes, documents and processes worker’s compensation.
  • Coordinates with employees, department leadership, claims adjusters and medical providers to assure continuity of care and open communication.
  • Prepares updates and maintains a variety of files and filing systems; including injury status changes, OSHA logs, and computer/hard copy files for injuries and illnesses.
  • Assists Human Resources with leave requests to ensure that FMLA and ADAA guidelines are met.
  • Assists Employee/Leader to assure that return to work notes meet all required essential functions and regulations.
  • Maintains a comprehensive Drug and Alcohol program in accordance with DOT and FAA regulations and completes a nursing assessment for reasonable suspicion of drugs and alcohol according to established policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the Ergonomics program and assists employees who need worksite ergonomics evaluations and equipment.
  • Coordinates treatment and testing for employees exposed to communicable disease in the work environment.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing An active license in the state of practice. Upon Hire
  • 1-3 years Nursing experience

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years Occupational Health experience
