Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) - Full TimeShift Details
- 3x12-hour shifts, day/night variable (scheduled as needed)
- Every other weekend (EOW)
- Holiday rotation required
- 2 on-call shifts per 4-week period
- 36 hours per week
- Contract end date must fall in February or March - no exceptions
Position Overview
- The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families
- Assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode
- Develops specialized skill in the care of patients admitted for medical conditions
- Provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions
- Accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing
- Expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment
Required Licenses & Certifications
- NYS RN Licensure (required)
- BLS - American Heart Association (AHA) or RQI only
- ACLS - American Heart Association (AHA) or RQI only
- NIHSS certification
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical experience as a Registered Nurse

- Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process
- Provides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge
- Documents education provided and the patient and family response to that education

- Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice
- Uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery
- Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas where professional development would be beneficial
