Description:

Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) - Full-Time Travel ContractContract Details
  • 22 to 26-week contracts required
  • Flexible end date, but contract must run into January
  • Extended contracts through the holidays are required
Schedule
  • Full-Time, 3x12-hour shifts (36 hours per week)
  • Day or night shift - scheduled as needed
  • Every other weekend (EOW) required
  • Holiday shifts required
  • 2 on-call shifts per 4-week period
  • Day/night variable shifts
Unit Overview
  • Med/Surg unit (3 North) caring for patients admitted for medical conditions
  • Patient populations include adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients
  • RN is accountable for patient and family education to support self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing
  • RN is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support within a Healing Environment
Position Summary
  • The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families
  • Assesses patient need and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
  • Provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode

  • Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care
  • Demonstrates skill in application of interventions, including medication administration
  • Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of nursing practice

Assessment & Care Planning
  • Assesses patient and family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data or information obtained through direct observation, technology, or health team communication
  • Creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of identified health problems
  • In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team, sets goals and monitors patient progress
  • Adjusts the plan of care based on patient response or change in condition and reprioritization of needs
Advocacy & Teamwork
  • Promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient
  • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome
  • Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice
  • Understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies
Patient & Family Education
  • Motivates the patient and family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home
  • Assesses patient and family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding
  • Seeks "teachable" moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information
  • Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process
  • Provides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge
  • Documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education
