Full Job Description
How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Regional Safety Supervisor is the Subject Matter Expert in their zone for Air Liquide/Airgas Safety Policies and Operating Procedures. This position plays an integral part in assuring that newly hired Bulk Distribution Drivers are trained to perform all tasks assigned safely and in accordance with established standards and procedures. This position is considered a part of the zone's leadership team as it supports industrial Management System directives relating to the initial and ongoing training and evaluation of both newly hired drivers and experienced drivers. The mission of zero accidents, zero injuries is the first priority.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety Compliance, Advocacy and Support
  • Promote and comply with Air Liquide/Airgas Safety Policies and Operating Procedures, as well as aiming for zero vehicle accidents and/or injuries, attending all safety training classes, actively participate and or present topics in safety meeting presentations and comply with all Transport Canada/DOT regulations including the use of required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Report all accidents, possible injuries, safety issues, driving citations and customer complaints to include service interruptions immediately to their supervisor.
  • Support and advocate defensive driving programs and policies such as Smith System Defensive Driving, Safestart, Geotab Lighthouse, Cone and GOAL, Three Points of Contact and 360° Walk Around. This includes the support and advocacy of the Potential Delivery Risk Site (PDRS) program. Support the Transport Canada/DOT Compliance Specialist as required, for all safety initiatives related to the training of bulk drivers, and other Airgas associates.
  • Conduct at a minimum one monthly HSE Self Inspection and assist in corrective measures for assigned locations. Actively participate in monthly Sequential Safety Meetings.


Regulatory Compliance
  • Comply with all Facility and corporate policies and procedures. Maintain awareness of all Federal, State, Local, and FDA regulations and stay in compliance with these regulations at all times. Report suspected Regulatory violations or offenses to the appropriate manager.
  • Assist operations personnel in developing and implementing action items based on HSE Exceptions to include: reported Customer Site Inspection discrepancies, Near Misses, accidents and injuries, Monitor closure of exceptions in a timely manner.
  • Support the Terminal Manager by assisting with vehicle accident and/or injury investigations and provide support to help identify root causes and corrective actions. Conduct announced observations and/or training rides when required.


Training and Evaluation
  • Responsible for evaluating the driver trainee when they have reached the required level of competency to undergo a 3rd party evaluation to establish the driver trainee's readiness to be qualified to work unsupervised.
  • Schedule and complete required follow up training rides and observations during the first two years of a new hire's employment. Provide feedback by documenting the new hire's performance against established training standards and recommend when additional training is required.
  • Support the evaluation of proposed new customer sites by performing site surveys to determine if safe maneuvering of bulk equipment can be accomplished. Ensure the driver team is trained on specific hard to fill locations.

  • Class 1 (AZ) Driver's License


Required Length & Type of Experience:
  • 5+ years Transportation industry experience required experience with driving tractor-trailer trucks


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Extensive working knowledge of Transport Canada/DOT, and other safety/industry organization standards
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and capacity to change organizational culture as it relates to HSEQ
  • Strong Product line knowledge of industrial gas equipment
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communications with all internal and external customers
  • Facilitate group training sessions as needed
  • Ability to learn and utilize Google applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail)
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, which encompass active listening, persuasion, and negotiation to engage effectively with colleagues and management, fostering collaboration and understanding.
  • Ability to tailor communication styles to suit different audiences.


Work Environment:
  • Frequent regional travel Up to 40% of work time
  • Must have reliable, appropriate transportation.
  • Job requires visitation to various Air Liquide/Airgas and customer sites, which have varying environments/conditions, layouts, and accessibility.
