Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Regional Project Management Office Lead (RPMOL). This role can be based in either Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton and will be approximately 50% dedicated to the responsibilities outlined below with a balance of 50% of the RPMOL time dedicated to chargeable project work.

This position reports to the Americas Project Management Office Lead, with a strong operational alignment and dotted line accountability to the Regional General Manager (RGM) and is responsible for leading and governing a strong project management practice within the Region. This role ensures the Region's capability to manage and deliver all types of projects successfully, achieving positive outcomes for clients and GHD in alignment with the Americas Project Management Office long-term strategy.

This role is structured as a balance of approximately 50% PMO leadership responsibilities and 50% direct project delivery, where you will actively contribute as a Project Manager (PM) or Project Director (PD) on complex and strategic projects.

Leadership and Governance:
  • Lead and govern the regional project management practice, driving tangible improvements in project management maturity and the effectiveness of Project Directors (PDs) and Project Managers (PMs).
  • Collaborate with the RGM and Americas PMO Leader to establish KPIs related to reducing project losses, timely project reviews and advancing PM maturity.
  • Ensure alignment and clarity for PDs and PMs with critical groups including:
    • Engineering Design Organization (EDO)
    • Project and Construction Management Service Line
    • Global Delivery Strategy

Regional Processes:
  • Provide leadership and oversight for key project management processes, including:
    • PD and PM roster management
    • Performance assessments in partnership with Business Group Leaders (BGLs)
    • Community engagement for PDs and PMs
    • Participating in Tender Review Group (TRG)
    • Independent project reviews for regional, major, or high-risk projects Portfolio reviews with ROMs, BGLs and project leaders
    • Portfolio reviews with the Regional General Manager (RGM), Business Group Leaders (BGLs), and project leaders to drive accountability and ensure effective project delivery performance.
    • Partner with the RGM/ROM to ensure that outcomes from project reviews are actioned and embedded within operational accountability structures.

Capability Development:
  • Develop and implement regional tactics aligned with Americas PMO strategies to enhance project management practices, focusing on:
    • Career development and competency training
    • Best practices and skills development
    • GHD-required procedures, tools and systems
  • Collaborate with the Americas PMO Lead and RPMOLs to establish effective processes ensuring the alignment of PDs and PMs with the right projects for delivery excellence.
  • Support BGLs in ensuring effective project management leadership is in place across all Business Groups.

Strategic Support and Operations:
  • Contribute to building regional bench strength by mentoring and supporting PMs and PDs, and by participating in the delivery of complex, high-profile projects across Western Canada
  • Provide support for strategic Americas-level project and client pursuits as needed.
  • Ensure the effective operation of the regional PMO in alignment with Americas PMO, including meeting the needs of the project management community and maintaining accountability for regional PMO performance.
  • Actively lead or support delivery of major or complex projects across the region, contributing to successful outcomes while strengthening regional PM bench depth.

What you will bring to the team:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in engineering or science
  • PMP is preferred
  • 10+ years of strong project and client management experience with an engineering consulting firm.
  • Proven experience in project delivery for environmental or engineering design across diverse markets/sectors, including public and private clients.
  • Familiarity with various delivery models (e.g. Consulting Assignments, Design-Build, Design-Bid-Build, and EPCM)
  • Experience in one or more of GHD's major markets: Water, Energy and Resources, Environment, Property and Buildings, and Transportation.
  • Proven leadership and development of project management competencies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

The salary range for this position is $114,758 to $191,263. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
