The Regional Head, MD Financial Management leads and oversees MD Financial in ensuring that business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The Regional Head provides leadership and direction to achieve overall sales and performance objectives. This senior leader is responsible for the implementation of MD strategies, processes and disciplines to achieve the organizations financial and client objectives. The role is responsible for the development and achievement of defined goals for the region through the profitable delivery of superior client service and high quality wealth management solutions to high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Develop and execute the region's overall growth strategy, business plan, profit plan, and sales goals by:

  • Developing and maintaining active involvement in opportunities to profile MD within the healthcare community, governments (PTMAs) and other Centres of Influences in the BC region
  • As the primary leadership contact for the region, establishing close working relationships with other areas of Scotia Wealth Management and Scotiabank partners to create business line awareness and generate internal referrals;
  • Executing on a talent strategy focused on attracting top wealth management talent while building and maintaining an internal and external talent pipeline for advisors and support staff
  • Maintaining close relationships with the region's top clients
  • Developing and maintaining active involvement in opportunities to profile MD within the healthcare community, governments (PTMAs) and other Centres of Influences in the BC region


Leads the sales and service management strategy by:

  • Leading, coaching and motivating the regional management and advisors to exceed sales growth and profitability goals;
  • Championing and facilitating the sharing of best practices to enhance client and relationship managers experiences (e.g. strategy & business development campaigns);
  • Managing the overall quality and timeliness of client service in compliance with corporate policies and procedures
  • Maintaining a high degree of working knowledge of products and strategies in order to effectively support Wealth Advisory professionals and promote the full suite of MD/Scotia products and services;
  • Providing direction and support to direct reports and staff for resolution of complex client issues;


Lead the execution of MD's Total Wealth Strategy across the region by:

  • Ensuring advisors effectively leverage the full suite of MD, Scotia Wealth Management and Scotiabank capabilities
  • Drive collaboration across Private Banking, Estate & Trust, Commercial Banking, Insurance and Wealth Planning to deliver integrated client solutions.
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Coach and develop team members to capitalize on deepening the relationship of all MD clients
  • Provide guidance to Regional teams to collaborate on delivering a differentiated client experience for all MD clients
  • Handle escalated client complaints to ensure a satisfactory outcome for all parties.
  • Manage compliance to adhere to Scotiabank and MD standards, policies and procedures and ensure all aspects of risk are effectively managed
  • Partner with supervision and compliance teams to implement regulatory policies and procedures; overseeing the implementation and execution of regulatory change
  • Understand how MD/Scotia's Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.


Ensures operational effectiveness for the region by:

  • Managing the regional profit plan (e.g. revenue planning, expenditures, etc.);
  • Monitoring non-interest expenses against planned budgets,
  • Utilizing technology enablers and supporting the adoption of new tools, technologies, and processes
  • Ensuring daily and periodic management controls are in place and effective;
  • Ensuring workflows and organization plans are efficient and effective.
  • Managing staffing requirements and departmental workloads
  • Participate in and lead change initiatives
  • Building a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Ensure appropriate reward and recognition activities are implemented within the Region.
  • Develop active working relationships with National Peers to enhance sales results and share best practices
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

    Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:


  • Minimum 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience within wealth management, financial services, or a related advice-based industry, including experience leading large geographically dispersed teams.
  • Post-graduate business degree and a CFA, CFP, MBA (or equivalent experience) would be an asset.
  • Requisite professional courses to be registered, at a minimum, as a CIRO licensed Registered Representative and Supervisor (CIRE, RSE, RR Internal Dealer Training, CIRO Conduct Training and Supervisor Exam).
  • Expert knowledge of the wealth management advisory industry and factors that influence it to anticipate, prepare and lead on issues that affect the business.
  • Exceptional business development and leadership skills and demonstrated success in sales management techniques.
  • Well-developed network of relationships with internal and external stakeholders, Centres of Influence and business alliances to identify opportunities and grow the business.
  • Demonstrated success leading senior leaders, advisors, and cross-functional teams in a complex matrix environment.
  • Proven experience managing and growing a business with accountability for revenue, profitability, expense management and strategic business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving growth objectives through advisor productivity, client acquisition and asset growth.
  • Proven record of attracting, developing and retaining top talent.
  • Demonstrated success building leadership succession pipelines and developing high-performing teams.
  • Proven capability leading large-scale organizational change, business transformation initiatives and technology adoption.
  • Ability to lead teams through ambiguity while maintaining engagement, performance and client focus.
  • Experience building relationships with professional associations, key centres of influence and community stakeholders.
  • Exceptional ability to build trusted partnerships with executive stakeholders across Wealth Management, Banking and Shared Services.
  • Executive presence with exceptional communication and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through complexity and ambiguity.
  • Life License (LLQP) (In QC, insurance licensing in Group Annuity Plans)
