Full Job Description
Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company, located in Mississauga, ON is seeking a permanent full-time Process Operator. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Process Operator in the Production department is part of the Operations team that is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the units and equipment within our facility.

Successful candidates will be eligible for our comprehensive total rewards package, including competitive pay, health and dental benefits, pension, savings programs, and paid vacation.

While this is a permanent position, applicants should be aware that refinery operations are planned to cease within the 2027 calendar year. As a result, employment in this role is anticipated to continue until the refinery closure, subject to business requirements. Employees hired into these roles will remain eligible for all programs and benefits available to permanent employees throughout their employment, per company policies and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Job Duties

  • Maintain effective communications (i.e. shift change, intra-shift team)
  • Draw samples as scheduled and test as required
  • Perform routine operating tasks (monitor levels, temperatures, pressures, etc.)
  • Transfer chemicals to addition tanks. Monitor and adjust injection rates
  • Report data to be logged to Board Operator
  • Monitor operating areas for abnormal conditions, (i.e. mechanical or process related)
  • Perform equipment care and maintenance as required
  • Perform routine running maintenance
  • Perform basic troubleshooting
  • Assist with major equipment switches
  • Perform housekeeping and operational maintenance as assigned by the Shift Team Lead
  • Perform maintenance activities as required
  • Train in all aspects of emergency responsiveness, including fire-fighting, and responding when necessary
  • Progress through the PBP Production Technician levels as per CBA
  • Attend/participate in shift team meetings
  • Maintain current knowledge of ongoing operational/equipment status, through effective shift change communications, shift logs, etc.
  • Add entries to outside shift log
  • Prepare and issue cold work permits as required (if qualified)
  • Update/review/validate procedures
  • Other duties as required
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

  • Completion of the required educational programs Chemical or Process Technology or Power Engineering
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing operations environment


Education Level

  • Chemical/Process Technology diploma or POwer Engineering program
  • Minimum Fourth-Class Stationary Engineering certification, with preference given to those with higher class certifications


Required Skills

  • Demonstrated safety-consciousness
  • Must have the physical capabilities to safely perform all essential aspects/responsibilities of an operator's position, including effective emergency response
  • Demonstrated problem-solving/analytical skills
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License
  • Must possess a positive attitude, be a self-starter with a willingness to become an integral part of a process Shift Team that functions in a dynamic environment
  • As a condition of continued employment, the successful applicant must progress through the PBP Technician levels as per the CBA
  • DZ class license is an asset


Work Conditions

  • Lubricants manufacturing requires a continuous operation of 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Successful applicant will work a rotating 12-hour schedule and overtime, as required. Schedule composed of 2 day shifts (5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) followed by 2night shifts (5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) with four days off before next scheduled day shift
  • Location of the role is the Petro-Canada Lubricants Facility located at 385 Southdown Road, Mississauga
  • This is a safety sensitive position which would require a pre-placement drug and alcohol test, pre-placement medical assessment and a pre-placement physical skills assessment
  • Starting hourly rate for this role is: $44.51 and is eligible for overtime at double
  • Eligible for our comprehensive total rewards package, including competitive pay, health and dental benefits, pension, savings programs, and paid vacation
