Position Description

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Provides patient services under the supervision and responsibility of a Doctor of Medicine or osteopathy.
  • Develop plans of care with the supervising physician, as appropriate, and implement plans while treating patients.
  • Determines need for specialized medical testing for diagnosis or treatment; Orders
    tests appropriately.
  • Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding a plan of care, problems, and other health care issues.
  • Practice independently, managing previously diagnosed and undiagnosed patients.
  • Provides the full spectrum of health care services, including health prevention, disease prevention, health protection, anticipatory guidance and counseling, and
    disease management, palliative care.
  • Orders and interprets labs and diagnostic tests, such as X-ray, electrocardiogram,
    and laboratory test results for deviations from normal.
  • Prescribes medication within the scope of practice. Manage patients' and families' health/illness status over time.
  • Examines patient, performs a comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.


Pay Statement

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

By October 1 of each year, institutions must publish and distribute their Annual Campus Security Policy & Crime Statistics Report (ASR) to current and prospective students and employees. Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.
