Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Director of Radiology, the Radiology Operations Manager directs and manages the daily technical operations of all divisions within the Department of Radiology, including CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic Radiology, and Breast Imaging. This role exercises direct supervision over technical staff, including lead technologists, as well as various scheduling, support, and clerical staff. The Manager participates in the development of departmental policies and procedures and ensures that modality operations remain in strict compliance with established Boston Medical Center-South policies and regulatory standards to support optimal departmental workflow and performance.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  • Operational & Staff Management: Selects, develops, evaluates, and schedules technical staff across all imaging modalities, and coordinates daily assignments, work rotations, in-service education, and staff meetings to maximize departmental capacity and efficiency. (20% of time)
  • Talent Acquisition & Performance: Interviews and hires qualified technical candidates, conducts criteria-based performance evaluations, implements corrective actions when necessary, and reports staffing trends and recommendations for change to the Director. (20% of time)
  • Regulatory Compliance & Policy: Directs the development, enforcement, and maintenance of departmental and institution-wide records, controls, and policies to assure total compliance with regulatory agencies, including the Joint Commission (JCAHO), DPH, NRC, and MWRA. (20% of time)
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Oversees and authorizes payroll for all supervised modalities, evaluates new products or equipment, manages purchasing activities within budget constraints, and proposes cost-reduction mechanisms in salaries, wages, and supplies to maintain positive variances. (10% of time)
  • Quality & Performance Improvement: Executes ongoing performance improvement activities for all operational functions, participates in multi-disciplinary quality improvement programs, and ensures corporate and departmental fiscal, operational, and quality data are effectively communicated to staff. (10% of time)
  • Strategic Planning: Aligns departmental planning, short-term objectives, and long-term milestones with the broader strategic goals and objectives of the Medical Center and BMCHS in conjunction with the Director. (10% of time)
  • Education & Support: Partners with the Clinical Educator to coordinate staff Continuing Education Unit (CEU) programs, tracks attendance records in cooperation with the quality improvement and staff education supervisor, and performs literature and web searches to integrate evidence-based practices into services. (10% of time)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Associate's Degree and at least 3 years in diagnostic imaging, at least 1-2 years of which must be supervisory experience in a hospital radiology department; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Supervisory experience at a teaching hospital.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • ARRT or CNMT certification.
  • Current or eligible for license as a Radiology Technologist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (license must be obtained within 6 months of employment).


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):
  • Verbal and written communication skills to facilitate efficient communications with patients, hospital employees, and vendors.
  • Fiscal skills to analyze and present budget performance information, including staffing patterns.
  • Knowledge of computer applications to operationalize EHR, RIS, and PACS technologies, as well as digital imaging.
  • Knowledge of PACS and Epic applications.


Compensation Range:
$104,000.00- $151,000.00
This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
