Department OverviewThe software verification team validates the system releases for both the VESTA Radio and ASTRO25 P25 public safety radio infrastructure products, and add-on peripherals. The successful candidate will directly report to the Test and Services manager and join a team of experienced software test and customer support engineers who are responsible for new initiative testing of the Motorola Solutions' LMR infrastructure product line.
Job DescriptionAs a Public Safety LMR Radio Infrastructure Software Test Specialist, you will be responsible for the rigorous validation of mission-critical voice and data infrastructure. Your work ensures that first responders (Police, Fire, and EMS) have a "always-ready" communication backbone. You will test the software driving digital trunked simulcast systems, dispatch consoles, and core network controllers, focusing on high availability, security (encryption), and inter-agency interoperability using a combination of manual and scripted test scenarios.
Mission-Critical System Testing: Design and execute test plans for P25 (Phase 1 & 2) infrastructure, including trunking controllers, base stations, and multisite gateways, network switches and routers, and servers.
Protocol & Interface Validation: Perform deep-packet analysis of LMR-specific interfaces such as ISSI (Inter-Subsystem Interface) and CSSI (Console Subsystem Interface) to ensure seamless roaming and dispatch.
High-Availability Testing: Conduct redundancy testing to verify that the system remains operational and resilient to failures.
Security & Encryption: Validate end-to-end encryption (AES-256) and OTAR (Over-the-Air Rekeying) software workflows to ensure secure communications.
- Foundational knowledge of Python, Perl, and Linux Shell Scripting for basic test automation and log parsing
- Strong command-line skills in Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments.
- Understanding of IPv4/IPv6, Subnetting, VLANs, and Multicast.
- Proficiency with Wireshark to capture and analyze IP-based traffic
- Experience with OS virtualization (VMware or VirtualBox)
- Working experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing, technical concepts to multiple different stakeholders
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
Preference given to candidates with:
- Hands-on experience programming / troubleshooting Cisco and Juniper networks
- Basic technical working knowledge of LMR radio systems (P25 Phase I and II, ISSI (Inter-Subsystem Interface) and CSSI (Console Subsystem Interface), radio terminal programming, RF methodologies)
