This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.
As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts in the Systems and Avionics Center of Excellence, you will provide experienced technical support to Blue Origin program personnel and the established Radiation Effects team. From mission inception to operation, you will help ensure the success of Blue Origin's systems, engaging program leadership and engineers to drive intelligent system design, part selection, and analyses.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Design Validation & Engineering Support - Contribute strongly to validation of space program designs with respect to radiation control plans, requirements, implementation, and verification; provide design engineering support for avionics and electrical systems
- Circuit Analysis & Mitigation Leadership - Lead program design personnel through simulation and verification of digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuit performance under radiation effects; recommend mitigation techniques where required to meet performance requirements
- Technical Contribution & Analysis - Analyze impacts of space radiation on avionics and materials, including SEE rates, testing requirements, and failure analysis; incorporate radiation effects test data and analysis results into avionics designs
- Documentation & Decision Support - Generate thorough part-level, circuit-level, and system-level radiation effects analysis documentation
- Automation & Tooling Leadership - Develop and champion reusable scripts, tools, and AI-assisted workflows that improve efficiency and consistency of radiation effects analysis across the broader team
- Knowledge Sharing - Contribute to group-, program-, and company-wide knowledgebase for radiation effects on avionics and materials
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Experience - B.S. (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Nuclear Science, or related field with 4+ years of experience in design, analysis, and/or testing for radiation effects on electronics and materials
- Technical Domain Expertise - Strong familiarity with the effects of ionizing/non-ionizing radiation on electronics, basic and complex discrete/integrated circuits (transistors, logic, memories, microcontrollers, FPGAs, etc.), and industry-standard radiation effects analyses (environment definition, SEECA, TID, DDD)
- Circuit Analysis & Mitigation - Noteworthy experience performing or overseeing electrical circuit analysis and implementation of radiation effects mitigations
- Analysis & Modeling Tools - Noteworthy experience with standard radiation environment modeling tools (e.g., IRENE, OMERE, SPENVIS, OLTARIS, CREME96) and application of fundamental statistical methods
- Automation & Tooling Leadership - Demonstrated ability to build and scale automation and AI-assisted tooling that extends beyond individual use, improving workflow efficiency for the broader radiation effects team
- Testing Familiarity - Strong familiarity with radiation effects testing methodologies (SEE, TID, DDD)
- Documentation & Communication - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with noteworthy experience presenting radiation requirements, results, and plans to peers and customers
- Autonomy & Judgment - Ability to work with minimal oversight regarding radiation effects on electronics
- Collaboration & Culture - Ability to build trust, maintain positive cross-team relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture
- Eligibility & Travel - U.S. citizen, U.S. national, current Green Card holder, or individual lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum; domestic travel required, occasional international travel possible
Preferred Qualifications- Applied Experience - Experience using commercial/automotive parts in radiation environments and producing program-deliverable documentation (control plans, test plans/reports, design reviews, system-level analyses)
- Project Leadership - Experience leading technical projects from inception to completion
- Hardware Design Familiarity - Familiarity with hardware schematics and circuit functions based on design documentation
- Radiation Transport Tools - Familiarity with radiation transport and analysis tools (e.g., MCNP, FASTRAD, GEANT4)
- Human Spaceflight & Materials - Familiarity with radiation assessments and mitigation for human space crews, and radiation effects on spacecraft materials
- Testing & Lab Proficiency - Familiarity with radiation test laboratory equipment (power supplies, DAQ systems, electronic loads, SMUs, etc.) and general electronics lab skills (soldering, oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers)
- Industry Knowledge - Familiarity with rad-tolerant and rad-hard offerings of space electronics providers
- Programming & Protocols - Proficiency with relevant languages, platforms, and protocols (Python, C, GitLab, SQL, I2C, SPI)
Base Pay Range for:
VA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
