Department Summary:MITRE Technology and Engineering inspires breakthroughs in applied science and advanced technology to transform the future of U.S. scientific and economic leadership. In addition to executing on a rich set of challenges through the six Federal Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs) that MITRE operates on behalf of its sponsors, MITRE Technology and Engineering works with broader federal, state, and local government to develop robust partnerships with industry and academia to drive impact in the public interest.
In support of this mission, MITRE Technology and Engineering operates several Innovation Centers which focus on various technologies. The Emerging Technologies Innovation Center (ETIC) focuses on emerging technologies that have the opportunity to provide transformational solutions to MITRE sponsors in the mid to long term. The Quantum, Earth, and Energy Systems & Technologies (QuE2ST) Department within ETIC provides innovative solutions to address new opportunities and challenges associated with these and other novel emerging technologies. We have a strong foundation of technical expertise across the broad spectrum of these technologies that our sponsors can draw upon to develop new capabilities as well as assess their vulnerabilities and respond to emerging risks. To meet increased demand, we are looking to hire a quantum capabilities that can support new sponsors starting to understand the threat and capabilities of quantum technologies.
Roles & Responsibilities:- Work with MPS leadership to determine how quantum technologies might fit their sponsor needs
- Interact with new sponsors to explain the utility of quantum technologies
- Grow a quantum technologies work program within the MPS spectrum of sponsors
- Ensuring that The MITRE Corporation will function as the most trusted resource for senior decision-makers of these sponsors
- Support the exploration and pursuit of opportunities within the non-traditional sponsor space
Basic Qualifications:- Typically required a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years of experience.
- PhD in Physics, Engineering, or related field
- Training, understanding, and research experience in quantum physics and quantum technologies
- Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills
- Ability to work with a team to address government challenges
- Experience in working with government sponsors to build an external work program
- The ability to think critically and be proactive in pursuing research and problem-solving
- Must have active Top Secret Clearance with ability to obtain SCI security clearance
- Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements for a clearance, U.S Citizenship is required.
- This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site
Preferred Qualifications: - Have a deep understanding of MITRE's quantum capabilities
- Experience in working with MPS sponsors
- Extensive research experience in quantum computing, sensing, networks, and materials
- Experience in quantum-supporting technologies such as AI, chemistry, material science, etc.
- Have an understanding of post-quantum cryptography

Salary compensation range and midpoint:$173,200 - $216,500 - $259,800 Annual
