Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Quality Control Supervisor / Quality Engineer to lead quality activities on our second shift within a precision metal machining facility serving the aerospace industry. This position is responsible for overseeing quality inspection personnel, supporting production operations, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical quality background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams. This role requires an individual who is comfortable balancing shop floor support, problem-solving, employee development, and quality system compliance while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

• Provide direct supervision, leadership, and support for second-shift Quality Inspectors and quality personnel.
• Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Manage daily quality priorities to ensure timely support of production and shipping requirements.
• Coach, mentor, and develop inspection personnel through training, performance management, and skills development.
• Conduct shift handoffs and communicate quality concerns, risks, and priorities to first-shift leadership.
• Ensure personnel follow documented procedures, inspection plans, and customer requirements.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and corrective action processes for quality staff.

Quality Engineering & Manufacturing Support

• Partner with machinists, manufacturing engineers, supervisors, and operations leaders to proactively identify and resolve quality issues.
• Provide real-time support to production teams to reduce scrap, improve yield, and eliminate recurring defects.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and customer requirements to ensure compliance.
• Interpret and apply GD&T requirements and inspection methodologies.
• Conduct root cause investigations and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Lead problem-solving efforts utilizing methodologies such as:

Inspection & Product Verification

• Oversee receiving, in-process, final, and first article inspection activities.
• Verify proper use of measurement equipment, inspection techniques, and documentation practices.
• Approve product disposition decisions related to nonconforming material.
• Ensure containment actions are implemented promptly when quality concerns are identified.
• Support disposition activities for:

Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement

• Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other analytical tools to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Monitor key quality metrics including:
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, and process capability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams during process development, validation, and implementation activities.

Quality Management System

• Maintain compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, customer-specific requirements, and internal quality procedures.
• Support internal audits and customer audits.
• Manage and maintain quality records in accordance with documented procedures.
• Ensure timely completion and effectiveness verification of corrective actions.
• Assist in developing and improving quality procedures, inspection methods, and work instructions.

Customer & Supplier Quality Support

• Support customer inquiries, investigations, and corrective action requests.
• Participate in supplier quality activities including supplier corrective actions and quality improvement efforts.
• Collaborate with supply chain and engineering teams regarding purchased component quality concerns.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in quality engineering, quality supervision, or manufacturing quality assurance.
• Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in an aerospace or precision machining environment.
• Strong knowledge of:

• Strong understanding of SPC, process capability, and risk-based quality methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with precision measurement equipment including:
• Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
• Experience with First Article Inspection (AS9102) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (AS9104)
• Experience using ERP and Quality Management Systems (QMS).

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $92,200.00 to $138,200.00 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays.
