POSITION TITLE:

Operations Director

DEPARTMENT: Operations

TYPE: Full time, Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The Quality Superintendent provides overall leadership to ensure the quality process is implemented to meet the project schedule and to meet all company and owner standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Leadership & Program Management
  • Set the tone for quality process throughout the construction process, from preconstruction to closeout
  • Ensure the quality management expectations are clearly communicated and tracked between field and office
  • Take ownership for all quality aspects of daily construction activities and installations.
  • Ensure the quality program is properly implemented and executed throughout the project
  • Actively participate on internal teams focused on continuous improvement initiatives.


Quality Assurance & Field Oversight
  • Proactively identify upcoming work, potential challenges, and areas requiring additional quality focus or resources.
  • Ensure quality processes are executed in the field to validate proper installation of materials and systems.
  • Perform field inspections to verify compliance with project specifications, codes, and quality standards.
  • Verify trade work plans are being followed and executed correctly.
  • Coordinate daily construction activities within existing operating facilities while maintaining quality standards.


Inspections, Audits, & Compliance
  • Support inspection scheduling efforts and provide estimated manpower requirements for inspections
  • Coordinate the resolutions of non-compliance reports (NCRs), observations, deficiencies, completion lists, and punch lists.
  • Perform periodic audits of project quality documentation to ensure compliance with the quality management program.
  • Assist in maintaining records of certifications, accreditations, and quality documentation.


Documentation & Project Controls
  • Ensure the field team utilizes project tracking and reporting tools effectively.
  • Verify the accuracy of information entered into the project management software and facilitate communication toward issue resolution.
  • Ensure project team members consistently document quality-related activities
  • Maintain current project plans and contract documents, including all revisions, clarifications, and contract changes.
  • Understand and effectively utilize project technology and quality management tools.


Design & Technical Review
  • Participate in the submittal review process to identify quality concerns before installation.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify discrepancies, conflicts, constructability issues, and potential risks.
  • Work with trade engineers to communicate contractual quality requirements to trade partners.
  • Provide technical assistance and quality guidance to project team members.


Preconstruction & Planning
  • Collaborate with the Preconstruction team to ensure projects are properly planned to meet quality requirements.
  • Understand local labor availability, capabilities, and self-perform opportunities to support quality execution.


Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide goals, direction, and leadership to the project team.
  • Develop, mentor and support the professional growth of team members.
  • Promote strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Remain knowledgeable of company policies, procedures, and processes where applicable for the role.


GENERAL BACKGROUND AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Two-year associates or four-year degree in an accredited construction related curriculum (BSCE, BSCM, BSAE, etc.) or experience equivalent to a four-year degree.
  • Two to three years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent or five to seven years of construction related experience.


Safety Requirement
  • Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • Willingness to comply with company and OSHA safety requirements
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, gloves, steel toe boots, and other specialized equipment as jobs require.
  • Current certifications for First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain


Knowledge/Skills
  • Understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Proficiency with construction management software (e.g. Procure, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)


Physical Demands and Work Environment

The Quality Superintendent regularly splits time between an office environment and active construction sites. The employee must be able to perform duties in each setting as project needs require:
  • Sit for extended periods and use a computer, phone, and other office equipment
  • Occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift office materials, weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Walk across uneven terrain and active construction areas during site visits
  • Climb ladders, scaffolding, and permanent and temporary stairways as needed
  • Stand or walk for extended periods and navigate partially completed structures
  • Bend, kneel, crouch, and lift materials or equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and be exposed to construction noise, dust and vibration
  • Review documents and construction drawings and communication in person, by phone, or virtually
  • Specialty project locations (such as industrial facilities, healthcare environments, or restricted sites) may involve additional safety requirements or environmental conditions
