Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer develops and implements systems to ensure products or services are designed and produced to meet or exceed customer requirements and expectations and establishes the principles of product and service quality evaluation and control for the quality management system. This role participates in the change management process to assure the products or services continue to meet customer requirements and provides independent oversight and review of the project deliverables throughout the lifecycle. Provides quality engineering support in matters of non-conformance processing, root cause analysis and Acceptance Test Program requirements. They will maintain key metrics, provide support to Inspection personnel, ensure compliance for all products, and assure prompt responses to customer requests.

In this role, you will typically:
  • Review engineering changes to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Participate as the quality representative in concurrent engineering and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including configuration and design changes.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for product and process non-conformances.
  • Lead in-process defect capture efforts and use metrics to drive quality improvement.
  • Maintain and manage documentation required for internal and external audits, including FAA and customer audits.
  • Conduct First Article Inspections (FAIs) and approve supplier FAIs in accordance with AS9102 and customer/regulatory standards.
  • Review and approve build books, manufacturing documents, and test documentation changes.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Operations team to qualify new suppliers and support supplier quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support incoming inspection and material control activities, including Material Review Board (MRB) dispositions and stamp control.
  • Facilitate and conduct supplier audits; lead supplier development, evaluations, and performance reviews.
  • Represent quality during customer visits, audits, and surveys; prepare required quality documentation and responses.
  • Assist in the evaluation and validation of test equipment for accuracy, repeatability, and capability; assist in development inspection plans and ensure appropriate measurement systems are in place.
  • Deliver training on quality tools, standards, and continuous improvement methodologies across departments and suppliers.
  • Track and report quality metrics, customer returns, delivery performance, and improvement actions using standardrized quality assurance systems.
  • Serve on cross-functional teams to drive resolution on Notice of Escapes (NOEs), Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), and program quality issues.
  • Support compliance and documentation for Repair Station activities, including audits, manual and roster updates, and FAA regulations.
  • Utilize and contribute to quality systems, and customer complaint systems.
  • Develop and maintain the Incoming Inspection Procedure, Scrap Process, Shelf Life/Expired Material Process, and Workmanship Manual.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


We require:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or similar discipline from an accredited university
  • Experience in quality or manufacturing engineering role (must at least have internship/practical experience).
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Authorization to work in the US.


Eligibility Requirements:

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. Whippany Actuation Systems will require proof of status before employment.

  • Previous experience interpreting blueprints and requirements, including familiarity with GD&T.
  • Aerospace & Defense industry experience.
  • ERP system experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $82,000 to $105,000 per year. Final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position."
