Position SummaryThe Quality Engineer performs engineering design reviews on contract documents, specifications and construction submittals for quality assurance in support of project delivery.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties- Performs Quality management on engineering design and construction processes and procedures to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements
- Reviews engineering design reports, disposition inspection and test plans and quality plans and procedures to ensure quality compliance
- Assists with review, analysis, and reporting on contract design documents
- Conducts quality surveillance and audits
- Develops checklists and reports on quality audits, construction surveillance and assessments on assigned design and construction contracts.
- Assists in developing Quality processes or procedures to ensure consistency, visibility, traceability, and effectiveness of consultant and contractor's work.
- Interfaces with other departments, construction contractors, design consultants and third parties to discuss quality status
- Reviews, analyzes, and reports on quality issues in the design, construction, and operational phases of projects
- Analyzes and reports on nonconforming issues and corrective/preventive actions.
- Assists in the development of operational and maintenance quality plans and procedures
Required Skills and Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering or closely related field with four years of experience in design and construction management in transportation/track related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Operational characteristics, services, and activities of a quality assurance program.
- Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Principles and practices of design and construction quality management.
- Quality assurance and assessment practices and procedures and reliability requirements.
- Design, construction management, construction inspection, and project management principles and practices related to transportation/transit projects.
- Engineering design drawings and standards, construction specifications.
- Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions- Frequently works outdoors at construction sites and occasionally works indoors.
- Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction.
- Sits, reads, writes, and uses a keyboard.
- May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather
- May be exposed to loud noise.
