Full Job Description
Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a senior organizational leader to oversee our Quality Assurance team. Reporting to the Head of Quality, you will architect, maintain, and scale our overarching Quality Management System (QMS) across all manufacturing and engineering facilities. The Quality Assurance Senior Manager will drive regulatory compliance, internal and external auditing strategies, and overarching systemic health as we scale aircraft production.

This leader will build and develop a high-performing organization of Quality Assurance managers, system engineers, and lead auditors. You will own the integrity of our compliance framework, serve as the primary liaison for regulatory and certification bodies (e.g., FAA, AS9100 registrars), and ensure our corrective action systems drive true systemic improvement.

The ideal candidate possesses a proven track record of systems leadership in complex manufacturing or aviation environments. This role requires close collaboration across Quality Engineering, Quality Control, Manufacturing, and Certification teams to ensure our QMS acts as a seamless enabler of production rather than a bottleneck. We are seeking a dedicated leader to build and sustain a world-class, audit-ready quality culture as we scale toward commercialization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Quality Assurance Organization: Manage and scale a multi-site team of QA Managers, QMS Engineers, and Auditors, ensuring overarching compliance with internal standards and FAA regulations.
  • QMS Architecture & Scaling: Oversee the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the AS9100 and FAA 14 CFR Part 21 compliant Quality Management System.
  • Regulatory & Certification Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact and management representative for external audits, FAA evaluations, and third-party registrar assessments.
  • Audit Strategy: Direct the internal audit program across the enterprise, ensuring rigorous evaluation of processes, identifying compliance risks, and validating the effectiveness of implemented controls.
  • CAPA Management: Oversee the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) system, ensuring that systemic issues are escalated, investigated, and permanently resolved by the appropriate cross-functional teams.
  • Document Control & Training: Govern the enterprise document control system and coordinate with operational teams to ensure accurate training and procedure adherence on the floor.
  • Management Review & Metrics: Facilitate executive Management Review meetings, utilizing data analytics to report on the health of the QMS, quality objectives, and overarching compliance trends.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive digital transformation initiatives within the QA space (e.g., eQMS implementation and optimization) to streamline compliance tracking.
  • Compliance: Responsible for performing job duties in a manner consistent with established Joby Policies and Procedures.

Required

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Quality Assurance, QMS Management, or Regulatory Compliance.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing technical teams or leading large, multi-site operational organizations.
  • Experience leading quality assurance operations in military aviation, commercial aerospace, or similarly regulated high-reliability environments.
  • Deep expertise in AS9100, ISO9001, and FAA production regulations (e.g., Part 21).

Desired

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, aviation management, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience); Master's degree preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA).
  • Lead Auditor Certification for AS9100D.
  • Experience implementing or managing enterprise Quality Management Software (eQMS).
