The Opportunity:
The Downstream Process Development (DSPD) team is seeking a highly motivated Scientist with a specialized focus on filtration processing and relevant biopharmaceutical industry experience. In this role, you will actively participate in advancing multiple innovative downstream process development programs within Roche’s robust pipeline. The successful candidate will drive laboratory execution, contribute to process optimization, and collaborate cross-functionally to support the advancement of breakthrough therapeutics.
Responsibilities:
Experimental Execution: Execute laboratory experiments efficiently according to predefined experimental designs, protocols, and timelines.
Process Optimization: Contribute to the troubleshooting, optimization, and scale-up of downstream processes to successfully meet project milestones.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and highly detailed laboratory records. Ensure timely closure of experiments and author high-quality technical development reports.
Lab Operations: Support the maintenance of essential laboratory equipment and critical raw material inventories to ensure seamless operations.
Collaboration: Partner with team members to ensure DSP laboratories are maintained in a safe, professional, and well-organized manner.
Who You Are:
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related discipline with 0 34 years of relevant industry experience; OR
M.S. / B.S. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related discipline with 3 7 years of relevant industry experience.
Core Knowledge: Strong foundational knowledge of downstream process development for biologics (e.g., viral vectors, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, or recombinant proteins).
Hands-on Experience: Proven experience operating Ultrafiltration/Diafiltration (UF/DF), Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF), and other standard filtration systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
In-depth theoretical and practical understanding of TFF and advanced filtration operations.
Working knowledge and purification skills specific to viral vectors or vaccines.
Familiarity with analytical techniques used for in-process testing and product characterization.
Previous professional experience utilizing data science tools.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Philadelphia is $91,000 to $169,000 . Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
