Propulsion and Design Engineer

Location: Montreal, Quebec

JOB OVERVIEW

FTAI Aviation's Innovation Group is the company's strategic division dedicated to developing the next generation of aviation technologies. The team supports day-to-day operations while driving improvement initiatives that fuel both financial performance and technological advancement.

We are currently seeking a Propulsion and Design Engineer to support FTAI's aeroderivative engine development program. This role uniquely blends engineering analysis, repair development, and direct shop-floor engagement. You will work hands-on with engine hardware, support engines throughout shop visits, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive technical solutions from diagnosis to implementation.

In this position, you will evaluate unserviceable material, define repair or reuse pathways, and contribute to continuous design improvements aimed at enhancing engine performance and reliability. You will also work closely with the Innovation team to help shape future engine enhancements.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshooting during engine disassembly and rebuild activities on the aeroderivative engine line, including leading and approving work scope preparation.
  • Evaluate unserviceable engine hardware and perform engineering assessments to determine repair, reuse, or disposition pathways.
  • Support new engine development initiatives through validation activities, design reviews, and module-to-module integration.
  • Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation, including repair instructions, engineering dispositions, and work scope recommendations.
  • Support root cause investigations by performing technical analyses and providing recommendations to address component or module-level issues.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant industry experience in propulsion engineering or the aerospace sector.
  • Experience working with aircraft engines and strong component-level knowledge, including LLPs, fan frames, high-pressure compressors, and low-pressure compressors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with finite element simulation tools such as ANSYS Mechanical.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
