Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This Project Scientist role will support our Geotechnical Practice in Sparks, Maryland. The ideal candiate will have expeirence with pavement design and slope stability analysis. This perosn perform will geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design for a wide range of infrastructure and civil engineering projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, project coordination, and leadership in delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
Project Management and Leadership:
- Chart and provide task performance results.
- Assess and document potential project impacts.
- Manage work routines and assign job activities.
- Attend project team meetings.
- Coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants.
- Serve as task manager of select projects.
Training, Development, and Compliance:
- Ability to mentor and train staff.
- Comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
- Ensure projects comply with ISO standards.
- Conduct employee performance appraisals, when applicable.
Financial Management and Reporting:
- Monitor project schedules and budgets throughout the project life.
- Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting project scope.
- Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters.
- Prepare technical proposals and manage project budgets.
- Achieve or exceed budgets individual utilization targets.
Project Execution and Technical Oversight:
- Provide technical project and staff oversight.
- Prepare avoidance or minimization recommendations.
- Prepare mitigation strategy and plan as required.
- Collect required field data using proper protocols and techniques.
- Lead field surveys.
- Process field data for inclusion in reports and deliverables.
- Lead the development of and assemble organized, clear, and cohesive technical reports.
- Oversee the production of design plans and reports.
- Review and interpret lab results.
- Review technical reports and provide QA/QC prior to submittal.

Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Geography or related
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring projects.
- A track record of successful project delivery.
- Proficiency in GIS, AutoCAD, and relevant analysis tools.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:
- Master’s Degree
- Experience working in natural resource mitigation and familiarity with stream and wetland restoration.
