Job Description

This position leads training strategy, coordination, and readiness activities for the GAS Enterprise Asset Management (MATRiX) program. As part of the Organizational Readiness workstream, the Project Manager serves as the Training Lead, reports to the Organizational Readiness Lead, and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Southern Company Gas Technical Training Manager. This role is accountable for driving alignment of training plans, timelines, curriculum development, communications, and stakeholder readiness activities across impacted workstreams and business areas in accordance with Southern Company Gas' best practices.

The role partners with MATRiX project teams, subject matter experts, and business stakeholders to ensure training deliverables are developed, reviewed, and executed effectively. Through collaboration, influence, and business partnership, this position connects project goals with workforce readiness needs while supporting training delivery, user adoption, and continuous improvement across the organization.

The selected candidate may work out of Georgia.

This position follows a hybrid work schedule. Employees are required to work in the office four (4) days per week.

Responsibilities

This role leads and coordinates training initiatives within the GAS Enterprise Asset Management (MATRiX) program, ensuring alignment with program objectives, business priorities, and workforce readiness needs. The Project Manager serves as the Training Lead within the Organizational Readiness workstream and partners with technical training teams, business stakeholders, subject matter experts, project teams, vendors, and implementation partners to support successful training delivery, user adoption, and continuous improvement in a hybrid Agile environment.
  • Lead training coordination for the MATRiX initiative, including training needs, activities, deliverables, and readiness requirements across project workstreams and impacted business areas.
  • Partner with the Southern Company Gas Technical Training Manager and MATRiX Organizational Readiness Manager to align training strategy, readiness milestones, communication plans, and implementation timelines.
  • Coordinate with program workstreams, subject matter experts, instructional designers, business stakeholders, vendors, and implementation partners to validate training content and support an integrated training approach.
  • Manage the development, review, and maintenance of training materials, job aids, facilitator guides, learning plans, training documentation, and related resources.
  • Monitor training deliverables, schedules, milestones, risks, dependencies, action items, and completion tracking to ensure project commitments are met.
  • Identify audience impacts, training gaps, adoption risks, and business readiness needs to support successful implementation of new MATRiX processes, tools, and ways of working.
  • Facilitate communication, status updates, readiness discussions, stakeholder check-ins, and escalation support to ensure alignment, accountability, and timely follow-up.
  • Plan and coordinate training delivery activities, including schedules, participant readiness, instructor preparation, logistics, communications, and post-training feedback.
  • Drive collaboration with cross-functional teams to address training priorities, stakeholder concerns, lessons learned, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Recommend updates to training processes, delivery methods, materials, or readiness approaches based on project progress, stakeholder feedback, and adoption needs.
  • Provide backup support to other roles within the department, as needed.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Project Management, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Learning Technologies, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.

Preferred:
  • Advanced degree.
  • Learning & Development, Human Resources, Change Management, or Project Management certification.
  • Experience in training development and facilitation within the utility, field operations, GIS, asset management, or mobile workforce technology environment, including creating and delivering programs that support operational processes and technology adoption.


Work Experience:
Required:
  • 3-5 years of experience in the utility industry or related industries.
  • 3-5 years of experience in operations training, technical training, learning and development, workforce development, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience working in a project environment.
  • Experience coordinating training deliverables, schedules, stakeholders, milestones, risks, and cross-functional project activities.
  • Demonstrated formal or informal leadership experience leading projects, initiatives, teams, or work groups.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, manage multiple assignments, and meet established deadlines.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and other presentation software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and deliverables in a cross-functional team environment while working with diverse project leaders across business units and companies.


Preferred:
  • 2-4 years of project management experience.
  • Experience supporting business readiness, change management, testing coordination, or implementation activities.
  • Knowledge of utility business processes, operational workflows, asset management, mobile workforce technology, or enterprise technology solutions.
  • Experience using, supporting, or partnering with business-related systems and applications such as Click, Gas Maximo, GCMA, CCB, Power BI, GLOBE, or similar enterprise technology platforms.
  • Experience in natural gas operations, utility operations, safety, compliance, or workforce qualification programs.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and performance-based training methodologies.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital learning technologies.
  • Experience influencing and coordinating project team members without formal direct reporting relationships.
  • Experience supporting process improvement, system enhancements, and strategic initiative implementation.
  • Experience contributing to project environments with a focus on delivering results within established budgets and timeframes.
  • Understanding of general business management practices and techniques with a focus on continuous improvement and learning.
  • Flexibility to support various tasks and adapt to shifting priorities in a dynamic work environment.
