Full Job Description
Position Title: CHIEF OF STAFF TO THE CEO
Location: HOUSTON, TX
FLSA Class: EXEMPT
Responsible to: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Position Summary: VoltaGrid is seeking an experienced Chief of Staff to serve as a trusted strategic and operational partner to the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief of Staff will work directly with the CEO to translate company priorities into action, strengthen alignment across the executive leadership team, and drive critical initiatives across VoltaGrid's corporate functions, manufacturing facilities, and field operations. This individual will play an important role in the continued integration of the organization and in preparing VoltaGrid for the expectations and operating rigor of the public markets.

This is a highly visible, hands-on position requiring exceptional judgment, discretion, business acumen, and follow-through. The Chief of Staff must be equally comfortable in the Boardroom, at a manufacturing facility, in the field, or meeting with customers, investors, and business partners. This is not an administrative role. It is an executive-level position focused on increasing the CEO's effectiveness and ensuring that the company's most important priorities are executed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Partnership to the CEO

  • Serve as a trusted adviser and thought partner to the CEO on business, operational, organizational, and strategic matters.
  • Help the CEO prioritize time and attention around the issues and opportunities that have the greatest impact on the company.
  • Translate the CEO's direction into clear objectives, action plans, accountable owners, and measurable outcomes.
  • Anticipate issues requiring the CEO's attention and ensure the CEO has the information needed to make timely, well-informed decisions.
  • Provide candid, objective counsel and help pressure-test important decisions, organizational changes, and strategic opportunities.
  • Represent the CEO in selected meetings and initiatives when appropriate.
  • Work closely with the CEO's Executive Assistant to coordinate priorities, preparation, travel, meetings, and follow-through.

Travel With the CEO

  • Travel regularly with the CEO to VoltaGrid facilities, field locations, customer sites, Board meetings, investor meetings, industry events, and other business engagements.
  • Ensure the CEO is fully prepared for each engagement through concise briefing materials, relevant background information, key messages, anticipated questions, and clearly defined objectives.
  • Participate in meetings alongside the CEO, capture decisions, and commitments, and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Build relationships with employees, customers, investors, advisers, and business partners while representing the CEO and VoltaGrid professionally.
  • Use facility and field visits to identify operational challenges, organizational concerns, and opportunities that may not be visible at the corporate level.
  • Maintain flexibility to travel on short notice and accommodate business needs outside traditional working hours when necessary.
  • Travel is expected to be both planned and situational and may include frequent domestic travel and occasional international travel.

Strategy and Enterprise Execution

  • Help convert VoltaGrid's strategic plan into a practical operating agenda for the executive leadership team.
  • Lead or coordinate high-priority initiatives that cross multiple functions or business units.
  • Establish clear ownership, timelines, milestones, and reporting for the company's most important priorities.
  • Identify barriers to execution and work with executive leaders to resolve them quickly.
  • Develop analyses, recommendations, and executive-level materials to support major business decisions.
  • Track commitments made by the CEO and executive leadership team and ensure consistent follow-through.
  • Step into complex or time-sensitive projects when additional leadership, structure, or coordination is required.

Executive Leadership and Operating Rhythm

  • Establish and manage an effective operating cadence for the CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Coordinate executive meetings, operating reviews, strategic planning sessions, and leadership off-sites.
  • Ensure meetings are focused on decisions, accountability, risks, performance, and business outcomes.
  • Document important decisions, assign accountable owners, and monitor completion of agreed-upon actions.
  • Improve the quality and consistency of communication among the CEO, executive leadership team, Board, and broader organization.
  • Promote clear decision rights and accountability as VoltaGrid continues to scale.

Public-Company Readiness

  • Partner with Finance, Legal, People Operations, Communications, Operations, and external advisers on public-company-readiness initiatives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional workstreams involving governance, internal controls, reporting processes, risk management, organizational readiness, and executive communications.
  • Help establish the planning, documentation, and operating discipline expected of a public company.
  • Support the preparation of the company's strategic narrative, key performance messages, and executive presentations.
  • Monitor readiness milestones, identify potential gaps, and escalate issues requiring executive attention.
  • Exercise exceptional discretion regarding confidential financial, legal, personnel, transaction, and investor-related information.

Board, Investor, and External Stakeholder Support

  • Partner with the CEO, CFO, General Counsel, and other leaders to prepare Board and committee materials.
  • Coordinate Board agendas, presentations, decision points, and follow-up actions.
  • Prepare the CEO for meetings with investors, lenders, customers, strategic partners, advisers, and other external stakeholders.
  • Help ensure that messaging is accurate, consistent, and aligned with VoltaGrid's strategy and performance.
  • Support the development of Board- and investor-quality presentations that clearly communicate performance, opportunities, risks, and priorities.

Organizational Effectiveness and Culture

  • Build trusted relationships across the organization, from executive leadership to employees working in VoltaGrid's facilities and field operations.
  • Serve as a connection point between the CEO and the broader organization while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Identify organizational friction, communication gaps, and emerging concerns before they become larger issues.
  • Reinforce a culture of accountability, urgency, safety, transparency, and operational excellence.
  • Help ensure that company-wide initiatives are understood and consistently implemented across locations.
  • Model VoltaGrid's values and leadership expectations in every interaction.

Other Requirements:

  • 10 or more years of progressive experience in strategy, operations, finance, consulting, corporate development, investment banking, or a comparable leadership position.
  • Experience supporting a CEO, executive leadership team, Board of Directors, or similarly senior stakeholders.
  • Experience in energy, power generation, oil and gas, industrial services, manufacturing, infrastructure, or another operationally complex and asset-intensive business strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a high-growth, private-equity-backed, acquisitive, pre-IPO, or public-company environment is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives involving multiple business units and senior leaders.
  • Strong financial and operational acumen, with the ability to understand business performance and translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing executive-, Board-, or investor-level materials.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to handle sensitive information with complete discretion.
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to influence others without relying on formal authority.
  • Ability to operate effectively in corporate, manufacturing, and field environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly with the CEO, sometimes on short notice.
  • Bachelor's degree required; an MBA or other relevant advanced degree is preferred.

Leadership Characteristics

  • Highly organized, responsive, and accountable.
  • Strategic enough to see the larger picture and operational enough to drive the details.
  • Comfortable working at a fast pace and making progress despite ambiguity.
  • Direct, confident, and capable of providing the CEO with honest feedback.
  • Low ego and willing to step into whatever situation is necessary to move the company forward.
  • Calm and credible in high-pressure or high-visibility situations.
  • Able to build trust with executives, employees, customers, investors, and Board members.
  • Naturally curious about the business and willing to spend time in the field to understand how the company truly operates.
  • Committed to VoltaGrid's success rather than personal visibility or recognition.

Measures of Success

During the first 12 months, the Chief of Staff will be expected to:

  • Establish an effective operating cadence for the CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Improve visibility and accountability around VoltaGrid's most important priorities.
  • Strengthen coordination among corporate functions, manufacturing facilities, and field operations.
  • Coordinate critical public-company-readiness workstreams and ensure milestones remain on track.
  • Build credibility as a trusted, objective, and effective partner across the organization.
