As the
Project Manager (1070), you will report to the Director of Project Management Office and serve as a technology project and product leader responsible for the strategic planning, delivery, implementation, transition, operational performance, and continuous improvement of major technology products, systems, services, programs, and cross-functional initiatives. The position exercises significant responsibility and discretion in defining priorities, coordinating cross-functional resources, resolving complex technology and service-delivery issues, and ensuring that technology solutions meet organizational, operational, and user needs while achieving scope, schedule, budget, quality, and performance objectives.
The position works across the Department of Technology and with departments and schools throughout SFUSD to translate organizational needs into sustainable technology solutions, coordinate implementation and integration activities, improve business processes and user experiences, and establish effective structures for ongoing product and service management.
Essential Duties
Technology Product, Project & Service Management- Lead major technology products, systems, services, programs, and projects from strategic definition through planning, implementation, transition, operational support, and continuous improvement
- Design and implement effective collaboration and operational structures across T&I in ways that support the successful implementation and ongoing delivery of technology-enabled projects, products, and services while fostering and maintaining positive relationships
- Collaborate with functional divisions and other project team members to identify needs, design appropriate solutions, and execute projects in a timely manner, including functional enhancements, new functionality, system integrations, and ongoing support to functional teams and users
- Oversee, track, and make decisions regarding the allocation and alignment of DoT and Digital District budget and resource needs to achieve timely, high-quality outcomes
- Work with stakeholders to communicate issues while balancing business expectations
- Lead and/or participate in client training and other implementation and change-management initiatives as part of overall project and technology deliverables
- Communicate with internal teams, stakeholders, vendors, and partners on a regular basis and ensure all parties have accurate and current information regarding project status, issues, risks, dependencies, and deliverables
Demonstrate a Leadership Mindset- Identify opportunities for improving business processes through automation; prepare proposals for the consolidation and integration of systems to improve business processes in collaboration with the appropriate district workgroups
- Design and implement processes for data retrieval and analysis that identify trends and opportunities for a better experience for staff and users
- Define best practices, innovate on processes, and promote effective practices across the team and SFUSD
- Lead the strategy and implementation of technology systems toward the long-term vision for a coherent technology ecosystem focused on continuous improvement and sustainability
Manage to Results- Evaluate, recommend, and implement methods to maximize the operational efficiency and effectiveness of technology systems and services that staff interact with on a daily basis
- Identify and eliminate blockers and obstacles to progress and delivery on cross-functional projects.
- Develop and monitor effective communication and collaboration across teams to ensure the successful implements of projects and deliverables
- Manage reports from systems, in order to evaluate needed shift in system interface and enhanced end-user experience
Manage Teams- Participates with the cross departmental management in strategic planning to meet District initiatives, policy and governance development, and problem resolution of complex issues and needs of the District
- Develop reports and visualizations used for stakeholder discussions
- Delegate tasks and projects to staff in services of SFUSD digital transformation; direct team members to the tools and resources needed to meet individual, project, and team goals
The strongest candidates will have:- Demonstrated experience in project management. Preferred PMP certification.
- Preferred experience with CyberSecurity, Networking, and Student Information Systems
- Strong knowledge of Google Drive: Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical requirements into user-friendly, accessible language
- Knowledge of San Francisco's public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD's commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile
Minimum Qualifications
Education: - An associate degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, UX/UI design or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in one of the fields above or a closely-related field].
Experience:- Five (5) years of experience in digital product management, system administration, information systems development, maintenance and support, software engineering, or information technology project management, including two (2) years of experience leading a major technology product, system, or project involving cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders.
Substitution:- One year of additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree.
