Job Title: Project Manager - Carter Global Power
Location: Richmond, Virginia
Starting Compensation Range: $80,000 - $110,000 per year
The Project Manager - Carter Global Power is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex distributed power generation projects for Carter Global Power (CGP). The individual in this role oversees projects from award through operational handover, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and customer satisfaction standards. Projects include grid-connected and behind-the-meter power solutions across data centers, utilities, industrial, oil and gas, and other mission-critical markets.
What You Will Do:- Lead full lifecycle project delivery for distributed power generation systems (reciprocating engines, turbines, and associated balance of plant), including planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, installation, commissioning, and handover
- Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining strict control of scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, ensuring clear communication and proactive issue resolution throughout the project
- Manage multiple vendors and subcontractors from Request for Information (RFI) through procurement, delivery, installation, commissioning, and demobilization
- Manage sourcing activities, including identifying, evaluating, qualifying, and developing a reliable vendor network to support project execution and operational goals
- Partner with Engineering and Project Management teams to develop RFQs, scopes of work, and comprehensive project material requirements
- Collaborate with Engineering to create and maintain detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Lists of Materials (LOMs) for project execution
- Coordinate closely with Business Development, Commercial, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Operations, Service, and Rental teams to ensure seamless project execution
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans; track progress and implement corrective actions as needed
- Support procurement strategy, including equipment (generators, switchgear, fuel systems, cooling, etc.), ensuring best value while meeting technical and commercial requirements
- Support the development and review of technical submittals, installation drawings, O&M manuals, and commissioning plans
- Travel to project sites as required to conduct kick-offs, progress reviews, commissioning oversight, and customer meetings, and day to day construction for mobilization and demobilization efforts (minimum 50% travel)
- Ensure all projects comply with applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, and quality standards
- Conduct project closeout activities, including financial reconciliation, lessons learned, and successful handover to Operations/Service teams
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project delivery efficiency and profitability
- Work in coordination with team to achieve Continuous Improvement goals and objectives
- Perform related duties as assigned
What We're Looking For: - Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related technical field (Or equivalent field experience)
- Minimum five years of progressive project management experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, or heavy industrial construction
- PMP certification or equivalent, preferred
- Experience with Caterpillar, Solar Turbines, or similar OEM power systems is a strong plus
- Experience building utility-grade or mission-critical power infrastructure (data centers, utility-scale, or large industrial), a plus
- Background in rental generator deployments or temporary/bridge power solutions, preferred
- Strong technical knowledge of power generation systems, including diesel/natural gas reciprocating engines, turbines, electrical distribution, paralleling switchgear, transfer switches, fuel systems, emissions controls, and balance of plant equipment
- Familiarity with Energy-as-a-Service, PPA, or long-term contracted power delivery models
- Proven ability to manage complex, multi-vendor projects in the power generation or heavy industrial sector
- Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong financial background - ability to manage project budgets, forecasts, and margins
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Self-directed who thrives in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and a proactive work ethic
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project / Planner, MS SharePoint, Procore, Jira or equivalent), Salesforce, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver's license
- Excellent driving record
- Willingness and ability to travel 25-50%
