Job Description
The Project Lead I will support the Texas Health and Human Services Commission on project management and coordination initiatives. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring moderate to complex business solutions from requirements gathering through implementation. The Project Lead I develops project plans, tracks milestones, coordinates with stakeholders across divisions, and prepares status reporting for leadership. This position also supports process improvement efforts, risk and issue identification, and consistent project management practices across teams. The role requires strong communication and facilitation skills to promote accountability and maintain project momentum.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, milestones, and action item logs.
  • Coordinate work and communication across multiple divisions, teams, and business areas.
  • Build relationships with internal teams, leadership, vendors, and partners to gather input and manage expectations.
  • Prepare written and verbal status updates and present information to leadership.
  • Facilitate meetings and document decisions and action items.
  • Analyze workflows, identify inefficiencies, and recommend process improvements.
  • Identify project risks, barriers, dependencies, and delays, and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, meeting notes, risk logs, dashboards, and executive-level reports.
  • Manage competing priorities and track deadlines to ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
  • Guide project activities and promote accountability and follow-through among team members.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3 years of experience in project coordination and project management, including developing project plans, timelines, milestones, action item logs, and status reports.
  • 3 years of experience in cross-divisional leadership, including coordinating work across multiple divisions, teams, or business areas.
  • 3 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, including building relationships, gathering input, managing expectations, and supporting consensus among internal teams, leadership, vendors, and partners.
  • 3 years of experience in communication and facilitation, including preparing updates, leading meetings, documenting decisions, and presenting information to leadership.
  • 3 years of experience in process improvement, including analyzing workflows, identifying inefficiencies, recommending improvements, and supporting standardized project management practices.
  • 3 years of experience in risk and issue management, including identifying project risks, barriers, dependencies, and delays, and escalating or recommending mitigation strategies.
  • 3 years of experience in documentation and reporting, including maintaining accurate project documentation, meeting notes, action items, risk logs, dashboards, and executive-level reports.
  • 3 years of experience in organization and attention to detail, including managing competing priorities, tracking deadlines, and ensuring accurate and timely deliverables.
  • 3 years of experience in leadership and accountability, including guiding project activities, supporting follow-through, and maintaining project momentum.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required and should be noted on the resume. Proof of certification may be requested.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years of experience with tools such as Microsoft Planner, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Visio, Power Automate, Power Apps, or similar project and reporting tools.
  • 2 years of experience with automation tools, AI-supported processes, or modernization efforts that improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
  • Experience in large organizations or public sector environments.
  • Experience in process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in automation, AI, or modernization projects.

Additional Requirements:
  • Candidates must already reside in Texas and be local to the Austin area, within a 50-mile radius. Candidates currently out of state who are planning to move to Texas should not be submitted.
  • Worker may be required to work outside normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and holidays, as requested, with prior coordination and approval through the agency.
  • Travel, per diem, parking, and living expenses are at the worker's expense.
  • Interviews will be conducted in person.


Work Location and Schedule:

Location: 4601 West Guadalupe Street, Austin, Texas 78751.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding Texas state holidays when the agency is closed.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with 2 days remote and 3 days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday) required onsite at the location listed above. Subject to change per the hiring team.
