As a part of this team, you will identify cost optimizing potentials and problem areas in the steel melt shop process. You will develop solutions for operating and optimizing the workflow by means of metallurgical modelling and hands-on software development. You will interact with a wide spectrum of people like project managers, customers, R&D specialists, process metallurgists and data scientist in order to deliver these models.

What you'll do
  • Modelling and developing metallurgical models with optimization algorithms directed towards improving costs, time, material and energy consumptions.
  • Sustainability, clean environment, CO2 reduction and "Green Steel" shall play a key role in our solutions.
  • Engineering and adopting the metallurgical models to match project and customer requirements
  • Testing the models in simulation environment to the satisfaction of the project and customer goals.
  • Commissioning and tuning the metallurgical models at customer steel plants internationally.
  • Provide support to the Sales and Service team

What you'll need
  • You have successfully completed a university degree in metallurgical or material science; preferably with focus on ferrous metallurgy.
  • 2+ years of experience in the metals industry
  • Passion in the development of exciting products and interest in new, innovative topics.
  • Ability to take responsibility and drive a theme forward
  • Strong analytical, strategic and coordination skills
  • Exposure to steel plant operation or process metallurgy is desirable.
  • An overview of process control, automation and control typical in steel plant would be ideal
  • Hands-on experience in mathematical algorithms for optimization. These could be thermodynamic, process scheduling, planning and control design-based algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience in developing efficient and reliable software with object-oriented programming skills; preferably in C++ or C#. Knowledge in software architecture oriented towards efficient running of intensive mathematical calculations is desirable
  • Cross culture communications skills, proficient English skills and German language skills are beneficial
