We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our Government Services team in Vallejo. In this role, you will review and evaluate engineering plans, specifications, technical reports, and supporting documents submitted for a wide range of public and private development projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in civil engineering principles and a thorough understanding of design standards, regulatory requirements, and permitting processes.
Responsibilities- Review civil engineering improvement plans to ensure conformance with agency standards, ordinances, project conditions of approval, and industry practice
- Review grading and drainage plans for various compliance conditions
- Review storm drain plans and hydrology/hydraulic calculations and reports for various compliance conditions
- Review water, sewer and dry utility plans for various compliance conditions
- Perform complex engineering calculations and analyses to check engineering calculations provided by applicants.
- Resolve problems related to local city codes and city specifications in order to bring drawings and specifications into compliance
- Coordinate with Surveyors regarding tentative maps and/or land development applications for conformance with agency standards (entitlement process)
- Review and manage Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPs) and post-construction Stormwater Runoff Management Plans for various projects, and other functions to comply with State and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements
- Review studies related to the Floodplain Management Program
- Assist in establishing and/or revising departmental policies due to changes in methods of construction or field applications of codes; Trains staff in application of new codes, policies, and procedures
- Other related duties as assigned
Requirements- Bachelor's of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of progressively responsible work in public works or a related setting.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, engineers, builders, inspectors, and the general public.
- Must have the ability to communicate to train staff.
- Role requires 10-30% of travel time
Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.
Benefits- The typical base salary range for this position is $105,000.00- $128,000.00, annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
