Work Location & Travel ExpectationsThis role supports projects across the United States and requires a high level of travel based on business and project needs. Candidates may be based anywhere within the U.S.; however, the selected individual should be prepared for assignments at various project locations nationwide. Travel for this position may reach up to approximately
90%.
Project assignments generally last 10 to 17 months, depending on project duration and operational requirements. While assigned to a project away from home, eligible employees are provided per diem to assist with temporary living and travel-related expenses, in addition to a competitive base salary.
To support project deployment, mobilization assistance may be provided, which can include mileage reimbursement or other approved travel support. Employees may also receive extended weekend rotations approximately once per month, allowing additional time for travel home.
Position OverviewThe Project Engineer to support the communication infrastructure (structured cabling, fiber, pathways, and low-voltage systems) scope on a major data center project in
Haskell, Texas. This role follows our standard Project Engineer responsibilities with a specialized focus on communication technical coordination, documentation control, field execution support, quality/testing (ITPs for fiber/copper), and progress tracking in a mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities- Support project initiation and execution for communication infrastructure, including permitting, licensing, and coordination with local Texas authorities
- Assist with Interactive Planning Sessions (IAP), baseline and forecast schedule development, and Construction Progress Workbook updates for cabling and pathway activities
- Manage project documentation in Procore, including RFIs, submittals, task lists, drawing registers, and material tracking
- Prepare and review submittals for fiber optic systems, structured cabling, cable schedules, pathway layouts, rack elevations, and labeling standards
- Provide field engineering support through daily reports, progress tracking, and coordination with project teams
- Perform material receipt verification and quality inspections in collaboration with Quality Control personnel
- Track installation progress for cable tray, ladder rack, fiber backbone, horizontal cabling, terminations, testing, and commissioning activities
- Develop, manage, and track punch lists through project completion
- Conduct quality and safety inspections to ensure compliance with project standards and specifications
- Support Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) implementation for fiber optic and copper communication systems
- Coordinate fiber and copper testing activities, including OTDR, power meter, and cable certification testing
- Assist with nonconformance report (NCR) tracking and resolution
- Prepare complete system turnover packages, including test reports, as-built drawings, labeling documentation, transmittals, and Care/Custody/Control documentation
- Support procurement activities for communication materials and subcontractors, including RFQs, bid evaluations, purchase orders, and subcontract documentation
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Quality, HSE, and field teams to resolve technical issues and support project execution
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Construction Management, or a related technical field preferred (equivalent communication infrastructure experience will be considered)
- Minimum of 5 years of project engineering, field engineering, or construction engineering experience supporting structured cabling, fiber optic, or low-voltage communication systems
- Minimum of 3 years supporting data center, hyperscale, colocation, or other mission-critical communication infrastructure projects strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of TIA-942, BICSI standards, ANSI/TIA-568, fiber optic installation and testing, copper certification, pathway systems, and mission-critical documentation requirements
- Experience using Procore for RFIs, submittals, drawings, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and document control
- Familiarity with Primavera P6 scheduling and construction progress tracking
- Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and coordination skills
- RCDD, BICSI certifications, or experience supporting hyperscale or client-specific communication standards preferred
- OSHA 30 or other applicable safety and quality certifications are a plus
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, field-based environment supporting a large-scale mission-critical data center construction project
