Job Summary

Reporting to the Study Manager, or any other individual designated by the Company, the Project Engineer will support the planning, coordination, and execution of capital and sustaining projects within a mining and mineral processing operation. This role works within the Project Engineering Department and collaborates closely with operations, processing, maintenance, environmental, safety, procurement, and engineering teams to deliver projects aligned with the capital plan.

The Project Engineer is responsible for managing multiple projects through various stages of development and execution, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and compliance requirements are met. Most design and estimating activities are performed by external engineering firms, requiring the Project Engineer to maintain strong working relationships, oversee deliverables, and ensure proper technical and commercial controls are in place.

Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance Leadership
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring all project work is performed safely and in compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) standards.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable building, environmental, and safety codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with HSE subject matter experts to integrate safety and environmental considerations into project planning and execution.

Project Planning & Execution
  • Manage multiple capital and sustaining projects through scoping, design, procurement, construction, and closeout phases.
  • Work with project owners and sponsors to define scope, objectives, budgets, and schedules.
  • Develop project execution plans and track performance against approved capital plans.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain schedule and cost performance.

Engineering & Technical Coordination
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms responsible for project design and cost estimation.
  • Review engineering deliverables including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), material and energy balances, equipment specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Support equipment selection, vendor evaluation, and procurement activities in coordination with procurement teams.
  • Facilitate technical communication between engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Stakeholder & Contractor Coordination
  • Maintain strong working relationships with operations, maintenance, processing, and engineering teams to ensure alignment and minimal operational disruption.
  • Coordinate with contractors and service providers to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Interface with government agencies, including building permit departments, as required.

Project Controls & Documentation
  • Support cost tracking, schedule management, and change control processes.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, approvals, and reporting.
  • Utilize project management tools to monitor progress and communicate status updates to leadership.

Other Duties
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet operational needs.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial operations.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a Project Engineer or similar project execution role.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulatory requirements is an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is considered an asset.


Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Working knowledge of engineering documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, material and energy balances, equipment specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Familiarity with building, environmental, and safety codes applicable to industrial facilities.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Results-oriented with strong attention to detail and accountability for project outcomes.


Physical Job Requirements & Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in both office and active project site environments, including occasional travel to operating or construction sites. Physical requirements may include extended periods of sitting and computer use, walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or accessing elevated platforms, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, respiratory protection and high-visibility clothing. The position may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other typical construction or industrial site environments, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards.
