Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics is seeking a Project Engineer (PE) to support design and development, proposals, and Internal Research & Development (IRAD) efforts for our RF/Sensors Line of Business (LOB).

This role is eligible to work a hybrid schedule based out of one of the following locations:
  • RF and Sensors Center of Excellence - Largo, FL
  • Submarine Combat Systems Center of Excellence - Twin Cities, MN


The PE will be the Engineering lead on development programs and will be responsible for managing a cross-functional engineering team (hardware and software) for all design, implementation, and qualification activities. This position may also lead IRAS efforts assisting in the set-up, operation, maintenance, and development of a component or system(s). IRAD efforts will also include requirements development, trade studies, testing, planning, and project reporting.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for technical solutions, efficient execution, and activity completion on time and within budget. The ability to work independently and collaborate cross functionally are key capabilities needed for this role.

The PE is the lead technical role on programs and is responsible for leading the Engineering execution of cross-functional teams. The PE acts as the integration point to the Leonardo DRS Program Office and is the customer technical point of contact on assigned programs.
  • Overall Project Engineer roles and responsibilities include: project planning, managing performance to technical/cost/schedule from the Engineering function on programs, Engineering scope management, customer technical relationships/communication, and partnering with functional peers to ensure flawless execution on programs.
  • Lead systems, software, mechanical and electrical project team members to achieve project goals
  • Owns and is accountable for the technical baseline on programs
  • Responsible to support the Program Office and develp relationships with customer technical community in support of the program and satisfying program requirements.
  • Identify obsolenscence issues and develop resolution plans to maintain customer delivery dates and continued production deadlines
  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them
  • Define budget, cost and schedule input for engineering projects
  • Create system/subsystem test environments, procedures, plans, and schedules
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services
  • Drive the program design to cost and DfX (design for X) requirements
  • Develop and execute plans to mitigate and retire key development and technical risks
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other DRS personnel and the customer
  • Participate in preparation of proposals
  • Provide technical knowledge and assistance to cross-functional team members


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in a relevant Engineering field with at least 8 years of direct experience related to engineering development & project leadership skillsets. Must have demonstrated success in similar technical environments leading development projects. Self-starting, self-directed candidate with excellenct oral and written communication skills. Capable of achieving project objectives and interfacing with various levels of internal team members, management, program sponsors, subcontractors, and customers.
  • Knowledge and experience in multiple engineering disciplines (e.g., systems, mechanical, electrical, safety, software).
  • RF technical experience and experience leading RF integrated design activity is preferred but not required.
  • Experience leading and managing subcontractor team members is desired
  • The following skills are expected, though applicants are not required to have every skill listed:
    • Project management and project planning skills (e.g., MS Project)
    • Familiarity with requirements management processes and tools (e.g., DOORS)
    • Resource allocation and management
    • Familiarity with DoD/DoW Environmental Military Standards and Specifications
    • Strong configuration management approach for customer technical data packages
    • Ability to troubleshoot and plan approach to resolution of failures from environmental qualification and factory acceptance testing
    • Familiarity with Agile Development methodologies for hardware support
    • Budget formulation & auditing
    • Advanced MS Office skills

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

The salary range for this position is $130,000/year- $180,000/year. This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate's qualifications such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for: annual performance-based bonuses, equity awards, and overtime pay (for non-exempt employees as applicable.
