Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a motivated, team-oriented Electrical Project Engineer to provide project management and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) engineering support for refinery process operations at the Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facility in North Dakota. The role is responsible for managing multiple small capital and expense projects concurrently, typically ranging from $20,000 to $5,000,000, focused on maintaining, improving, and optimizing existing operating units. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on business needs, experience, and workload. This position supports both the Mandan and Dickinson facilities and reports to the Engineering Manager. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Apply project management skills in all phases of project engineering: development, justification, design, construction, and start- up from conception to closeout. • Defines scope, develops cost estimates and schedules, and secures funding approval from management for small capital and expense projects. • Prepares Decision Support Packages (DSP's) and presents to leadership. • Manages multiple projects/programs safely, efficiently, and within budget; develops strategies to meet schedules and mitigate delays. • Ensures compliance with Management of Change (MOC), Process Safety Information (PSI), and mechanical integrity documentation. • Coordinate project specific work with in-house designers and outside engineering consultants to complete projects and studies cost-effectively. • Collaborate with stakeholders including Maintenance, Construction, and Turnaround teams to support planning and execution. • Interacts daily with project team members developing and executing project objectives. • Develop and reviews construction packages to ensure new installations meet MPC and all applicable industry codes and standards. • Applies engineering codes and specifications, ensures designs meet safety, environmental and permitting standards. • Provide specifications and support purchasing of electrical/instrument engineered material for assigned projects. • Support field construction and final project installation sign-off. • Provide E&I technical support, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills for refinery process operations teams and multi-disciplined projects. • Participates in area HAZOP and LOPA reviews and incident investigations; applies safety and environmental standards to designs. • Promotes safety awareness and takes corrective action when unsafe practices or conditions are observed. • Provide E&I assistance to the Area Teams during process unit Turnarounds. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required. • Minimum of 2 years' post degree engineering experience in the refining or petrochemical industry is preferred. • Valid driver's license required. • Some travel is required. • Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future. • Familiarity with Smart Instrumentation (SI) and electrical analysis software is preferred. Skills and Qualifications • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel. • Must exhibit strong organizing, planning, critical thinking, and communication skills. With the ability to manage competing priorities in dynamic refining environment. • Must be able to physically perform the essential job functions including, but not limited to, wearing all required PPE, working at elevated heights, confined space entry, fall protection, and respirator usage. **This position is part of an Engineering Technical Ladder with multiple levels.
