DESCRIPTION

The Project Coordinator within the Department of Transformation supports the implementation and delivery of defined healthcare operational and strategic initiatives across UC San Diego Health. Working within established project scope, objectives, and governance, the Project Coordinator translates defined priorities into structured project plans, coordinates cross-functional work, manages timelines and dependencies, facilitates meetings, tracks decisions and action items, identifies and escalates risks, and drives work through implementation and closeout.

This position is intended for a candidate with an established foundation in formal project management who can independently manage the day-to-day execution of assigned projects and workstreams. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience using standard project management practices and tools to organize work, maintain accountability, engage stakeholders, resolve implementation barriers, and deliver measurable results. While project sponsors and department leadership will generally establish strategic direction and initial scope, the Project Coordinator is expected to independently develop and maintain the structure necessary to move work from planning through implementation.

Projects may support system-wide growth and access, care delivery transformation, operating efficiency, workflow redesign, and other enterprise priorities. Because the work occurs within a complex academic medical center, candidates should demonstrate an understanding of healthcare administration and operations and the ability to coordinate work across clinical, administrative, and technical stakeholders.

  • Support implementation of new or redesigned operational workflows, processes, programs, and services, including implementation readiness, stakeholder communication, training coordination, and adoption activities.
  • Apply structured problem-solving and process-improvement methods-including process mapping, root cause analysis, and data analysis-to support implementation and improvement activities.
  • Partner with project sponsors, operational leaders, subject-matter experts, and other stakeholders to translate defined objectives into executable workplans and measurable deliverables.
  • Monitor project performance and outcomes and support formal project closeout, including documentation of results, lessons learned, outstanding operational ownership, and improvement opportunities.
