Job Description:

Working within a matrixed organization, the Project Controls Analyst (PCA) will report to the Manager of Project Controls with a specific work assignment in our Direct Assign Project (DA) portfolios. The PCA initiates and maintains financial data for the DA portfolios. Within AltaLink, the PCA will lead cost controls interactions with Project Management, Regulatory, Siting, Land, Scheduling, Cost Engineering, Accounting, and Business Analysis functions. Externally, the PCA interacts with consultants, contractors and EPC service providers as needed. This position is for the Direct Assign team and will provide assistance to the Project Managers to ensure all transactions related to assigned Direct Assign projects are properly accounted for, and proper procedures are followed.

Responsibilities:
  • Formulate Work Breakdown Structures for project set-up in SAP;
  • Prepare and ensure applicable financial project controls for: project set-up, estimates, forecasts, billings and project close-out;
  • Conduct risk assessment and analysis in conjunction with cost estimates;
  • Conduct project cost performance assessments. Adjust project forecasts, identify where budgets and milestones are at risk, and assess follow-up on remedial actions;
  • Prepare monthly status reports for project and program reviews, feedback to the AESO and for feedback to customers;
  • Assess the effectiveness of change notices against AltaLink procedures and regulatory rules, at a project and program levels; and
  • Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars - one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.

Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Post secondary Degree or related combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience managing up to $100M and/or 10 moderately complex (substations) projects;
  • Proven ability/experience in above noted responsibilities;
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and SAP modules: Finance, Controlling, Project Systems, Materials Management, and Plant Maintenance;
  • Experience with accounting practices and GAAP in a regulatory environment;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Conversant with accounting practices in a regulated Utility;
  • Ability to recognize improvement opportunities and suggest resolutions;
  • Interact effectively with a variety of team members under tight schedules;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes;
  • Strong organizational/time management skills;
  • Ability to function effectively in an environment of frequently changing priorities;
  • Produce accurate, consistent, high-quality results;
  • Experience in quick and accurate data manipulation from various data sources to produce the required reporting formats;
  • EPC/EPCm experience preferred;
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with ability to work in a team environment, positively influence others, and develop strong internal and external relationships and to promote positive customer outcomes; and
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
