SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Project Buyer I or II to support the Power Delivery Operating Group. This role focuses on building supplier relationships, managing procurement activities, and ensuring timely delivery of materials and equipment for the construction of substations, wind collection systems, and transmission lines.

This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Purchase equipment and materials at the best value while meeting quality, quantity, and specification requirements (e.g., transmission line steel, substation steel, high and medium voltage electrical equipment, enclosures, MV cable).
  • Collaborate with project, estimating, and design phase teams to align supply chain strategies with project goals and schedules.
  • Plan material needs early in the projects design phase to secure long-lead and critical-path items.
  • Solicit bids, analyze quotations, and select suppliers based on cost and schedule competitiveness.
  • Ensure buyouts align with budgets and manage procurement risks and compliance.
  • Learn contract administration and procurement risk management processes.
  • Support order tracking and reporting for assigned projects.
  • Interpret technical specifications and confirm supplier compliance.
  • Draft and execute purchase agreements and coordinate with Risk team on surety requirements.
  • Assist with supplier communications and issue resolution.
  • Track orders from placement through delivery and communicate status to project teams.
  • Conduct quarterly job site and supplier visits to strengthen relationships.
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Drives supplier performance improvements and risk mitigation.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or related discipline, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
  • Ability to handle multiple procurement activities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and timeliness
  • Knowledge of construction processes, equipment, and/or materials, purchasing processes, and procedures
  • Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal, and communication skills
  • Strong customer service and analytical skills
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Software experience
  • Current driver's license

Project Buyer I
  • Minimum Qualifications: 2-3+ years of procurement experience
  • The base pay range for this role is $68,700 - $114,300


Project Buyer II
  • Minimum Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in procurement
  • The base pay range for this role is $76,200 - $114,300


(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
