Full Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on Transformation Lead to own end-to-end delivery of a large-scale Sybase ASE to Oracle database conversion within a Tier 1 trading-platform transformation program. This is a dedicated, single-workstream role - the Lead will partner closely with the workstream SME and the wider technical team to plan, drive, and land the migration. This is not an administrative project-tracker role. We need a practitioner who has done database conversions of this scale before, understands what can go wrong, and can roll up their sleeves to work through the detail with engineers. Responsibilities Own the workstream plan. Build it with the SMEs at the outset; then own it - adjusted, re-planned, and adapted as the work evolves Drive the conversion. Lead schema conversion, data migration, code remediation (stored procedures, T-SQL/PL-SQL differences), performance tuning, regression and parallel-run testing, and cutover plan Surface and resolve issues. Proactively look across the workstream for blockers, dependencies and risks. Own issues from identification through to closure - not just record them on a status report Propose and implement solutions. Bring options to the table. Work with SMEs and technical teams to land workable answers in detail Convene and chair the work. Organize and chair stakeholder forums, working groups, and cross-team sessions. Hold the cadence Manage dependencies in infrastructure. Work closely with the Infrastructure Transformation Lead to define requirements (storage, compute, network, environments) and sequence delivery Escalate with judgment. Know what needs to go up and when. Manage upward visibility without burning the chain unnecessarily Own status, comms and schedule. Drive delivery to schedule. Manage stakeholder communications. Produce a status that reflects reality Requirements Demonstrable, hands-on delivery of at least one prior large-scale database migration off Sybase ASE onto Oracle (or a comparably complex RDBMS-to-RDBMS conversion) within a regulated enterprise environment Deep, working understanding of Sybase ASE and Oracle internals - data types, locks and concurrency models, T-SQL vs. PL/SQL differences, partitions, indexes, replication, backup/recovery, and performance tuning Track record to lead conversion workstreams end-to-end: discovery, schema and code conversion, data migration, parallel runs, reconciliation, cutover and post-go-live hyper-care Previous large-scale transformation experience in a financial services or other complex, high-availability environment - capital markets, banking, insurance, or similar Proven ability to operate as a working Lead - comfortable in the detail with DBAs, developers and SMEs, while still owns plan, status, risks and stakeholder communications Strong written and verbal communication; able to write clearly, chair effectively, and brief senior stakeholders Nice to have Experience with database conversion tooling (e.g., Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench, Ispirer, AWS SCT or equivalent) Exposure to trading, risk, or front-to-back capital-markets platforms Experience alongside a dedicated SME model where the Lead owns delivery and the SME owns technical content
