Full Job Description
The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Endodontics. This is an open-rank, full-time appointment stream (nontenure) faculty position. The academic rank will be determined as commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.

The Chair will have a unique opportunity to lead a vibrant, nationally recognized department with a longstanding tradition of excellence in education, clinical care, research, and service. Supported by a thriving clinical enterprise, the department is well positioned for continued growth and innovation. The successful candidate will build on these strengths to shape the department's future, expand its impact, and foster excellence across its academic, clinical, and research missions. A key expectation of the role is to recruit, develop, and retain outstanding faculty while attracting highly talented residents who will contribute to the department's continued national prominence. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, residents, and institutional leaders, the Chair will advance initiatives that promote oral health equity, strengthen community-based education, expand access to care in rural and underserved communities, enhance translational and population health research, and further elevate evidence-based clinical practice.

Key responsibilities include: provide visionary leadership aligned with the school's mission to improve oral and overall health through education, research, and service; didactic and clinical instruction of residents, scholarly activities, and service; provide support to the program director of the Advanced Dental Education and Residency Program in Endodontics; engage in scholarship; mentor faculty in teaching and in securing extramural research funding; advance curricular integration of endodontics in predoctoral and residency programs; and manage departmental resources, personnel, and strategic planning with transparency and fiscal accountability. Additional departmental administrative duties may also apply. Participation in the University Dental Health Services faculty practice is also available.

Qualified applicants must hold a dental degree and an advanced education certificate in Endodontics from a CODA-accredited program. The applicant must be a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics (ABE) and be able to obtain and maintain a Pennsylvania dental license. The applicant should have a minimum of five years of clinical practice and a minimum of five years of teaching experience as a full-time or part-time faculty member associated with an endodontic department. Preference will be given to those with additional academic and/or leadership training, a documented record of achievement in teaching, scholarship, and service related to the specialty of endodontics; and demonstrated leadership experience and success in fostering collaborative, interdisciplinary teams.
