ROLE of the POSITION

We’re looking for a candidate with a track record of effective leadership to supervise a complex operation that includes a growing academic program, public radio station, video production team, and student social media agency. The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience in higher education, a strong academic record and significant professional media experience.


The School offers an innovative curriculum with concentrations in journalism, sports media, advertising and public relations, social and digital media, video journalism, and audio and podcasting, as well as a fully online concentration in media studies. Our faculty includes nationally recognized scholars and media professionals. We’ve developed strong relationships with the Las Vegas media community, including advertising, public relations and social media agencies, and the city’s professional sports teams.


We’re looking for a resourceful leader who can build upon the School’s momentum, anticipate and respond to changes across the media industry and higher education, and sustain a culture of collaboration and excellence.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE

Housed in the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs, the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies seeks to embody the public service ideals of Hank Greenspun, the former editor and publisher of the Las Vegas Sun. The School enrolls approximately 450 undergraduate and graduate students. Its academic and professional programs emphasize critical thinking and experiential learning. Students can participate in the School's professional media operations, which include KUNV Public Radio, UNLV-TV, and Rebel Media Group, a student social media agency.

 

BACKGROUND SCREENING

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background and/or credit check.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph.D. in Journalism, Communication, Media or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and at least 15 years of academic and professional media experience. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in leadership, management, development, and budgeting. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include: current rank of Professor; national or international recognition for media, creative, or scholarly achievements; administrative experience at the department or college level; achievements in facilitating community collaborations; and evidence of effective mentoring and teaching.
