Job Description
Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada is seeking applicants for the Director of Counseling.
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Life, the Director of Counseling develops, administers, and evaluates comprehensive counseling services addressing the personal, psychological, academic, vocational, and situational needs of TMCC students. The Director builds and maintains the partnerships that extend the College's mental health capacity. The Director also oversees the ASK/DQ process and appeals, campus wide programs, the Emergency Scholarship process, and student outreach efforts. The Director supervises academic and administrative faculty, classified staff, employees on Letters of Appointment (LOAs), and volunteers within the Counseling Center.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Develop, administer, and evaluate comprehensive counseling services that address the personal, psychological, academic, vocational, and situational needs of TMCC students.
2. Provide oversight of direct individual and group counseling, including personal, crisis, academic, career, and life-planning counseling.
3. Direct crisis intervention protocols, initial assessments, and referral practices for at-risk and high-risk students, ensuring counseling faculty apply them consistently.
4. Lead campuswide workshops, psycho-educational groups, and prevention programming, including mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and stress reduction, and administer courses in personal development, career and life planning, and college success.
5. Build and maintain community partnerships and NSHE partner agreements that extend the College's mental health and referral capacity, and represent the department on related NSHE committees.
6. Lead student outreach initiatives that connect students with campus and community resources.
7. Supervise, recruit, hire, train, and evaluate academic and administrative faculty, classified staff, LOAs, and volunteers, while supporting professional ethics and licensure standards
8. Fostering a collaborative, service-oriented team culture.
9. Plan, develop, and manage the Counseling Center budget, and lead program review and continuous improvement efforts.
10. Ensure compliance with FERPA, professional ethics, and applicable regulations, and lead assessment of counseling programs, reporting outcomes, utilization, and trends to the Executive Director, Student Life.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education Level:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience:
1. Four (4) years program management experience in the counseling field.
2. Two (2) years applied experience as a counselor or advisor in higher education.
3. Direct supervisory experience
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff of varying academic, social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education Level:
1. Master's Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience:
1. Ten (10) years of related experience in both higher education and counseling field.
2. Experience in community college leadership.
3. Experience in enrollment management.
4. Familiarity with technology, including computerized student/client information systems.
5. Experience working with diverse student populations.
Salary and Benefits Information:
Salary: $93,174 - $116,468, initial salary placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience
