Summary:

The Production Superintendent organizes and schedules the activities of the employees working on the production crews to produce cost-effective amounts of clinker and cement, according to quality control specifications and plant production goals. This position coordinates production activities with other departments to ensure shipping, maintenance, and quarry activities are in sync with production schedules. The position supervises a medium team of employees.

What you'll be contributing:

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Prioritizes, assigns, and communicates tasks for the employees working on the teams.
  • Directs production team and manages plant operations to ensure production goals are achieved. Strives for continuous improvement of production operations.
  • Monitors and supervises the performance of hourly employees working directly in the production process. Evaluates job performance and communicate same to employees.
  • Performs hiring, recommends or provides technical training, discipline, and other related duties as needed for the shift.
  • Coordinates with control room personnel to respond as quickly as possible to problems occurring in the production process.
  • Monitors quality control and coordinates with lab and production personnel to ensure that adjustments are made to enhance quality and meet required specifications.
  • Collaborates with Team Members from prior and following shifts regarding the status of production operations, problems, and adjustments being made to meet production standards and objectives.
  • Ensures team understanding that material streams from the producing units and transfer facilities are properly positioned and operating.
  • Provide support so that safety meetings are held regularly to ensure employees understand and practice proper safety procedures.
  • Assures that inspection of work areas is completed for safety hazards and ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Maintains records of employee overtime, absences, vacations, etc., and prepares daily time sheets for production employees.
  • Ensures that proper pay scale codes and charge numbers are recorded for employees.
  • Monitors inventory of materials in the plant daily and that documentation is provided accordingly.
  • Inspects equipment and process systems and provides data to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process problems.
  • Assists with Investigations and reporting accidents and incidents as required by internal contacts and external agencies.
  • Investigates, recommends, and implements capital investments as needed.
  • Coordinates efforts with other departments such as maintenance, shipping, quarry, and marine.
  • Assures accurate preparation of daily reports and maintains required records regarding production operations as requested.
  • Inspects equipment and process system breakdowns, determines repairs needed, and writes work orders. Coordinates and supervises equipment repairs and preventative maintenance performed by maintenance personnel.
  • Ensures that supplies and tools are maintained for the teams. Purchases and/or orders supplies, and equipment.
  • Supervises contractors working on projects during shifts.
  • Coordinates supervision for plant operations during the night and weekend shifts. This can include quarry, production, maintenance, electrical, and shipping.
  • Assures that procedures are adequate to receive, inspects and unloads shipments of fuel, clinker, cement, and raw materials received via truck, rail car, and barge.
  • Develops and instills in shift leaders a working understanding of all company and plant policies affecting plant operations.
  • Inspects kiln, preheater, and cooler systems refractory, track/document refractory lining thickness, maintains accurate refractory inventories, calculate/order required refractories, maintain/update kiln brick chart, and train personnel in refractory installations.

  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.


To succeed in this position, you will need:

  • 4 year/Bachelors Degree in Science, Math, or closesly related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in similar positions in the production area of a cement or related industrial plant facility, or a closely related position.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication, and listening skills
  • Ability to lead/manage others
  • Ability to efficiently perform, organize and prioritize work independently
  • Ability to make decisions and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at a conclusion
  • Knowledge of kiln and mill operations, mobile equipment, machinery functions, and production process control
  • Knowledge of other plant departments such as shipping, maintenance, quarry, and engineering
  • Ability to understand and comply with company and plant policies covering plant employees
  • Ability to effectively monitor production operations and quickly detect and respond to processing problems
  • Ability to understand and comply with safety and environmental regulations
  • Ability to work under general supervision with specified objectives, policies, and performance standards
  • Ability to refer to supervisor when in doubt as to the proper procedure for a specified action


Additional Information:

  • Compensation: $101,900 - $138,300
